Lionsgate is giving out passes for both Wednesday night at the same time. Operation Avalanche has gotten blasted, but I'm kind of a sucker for poorly reviewed SciFi movies.

Mark plays Mike Williams. Mike is from Dallas.

Since you were onboard the Horizon, and since you have seen a prelease of the movie, please tell me what they got wrong. Be specific.

Not a big Mark fan. But I was on the set when it was shot. And I have seen the movie twice. And I have met with the technical consultants on multiple occasions. I have been in detailed discussions about what events were compressed, what liberties were taken, and which were recreated in precise technical detail. In short, I know what I am talking about. And you don't.

I don't care if you built the Deepwater Horizon with your own two hands. If you haven't seen the movie, you can't really say that it deviates substantially from what happened that night.

Your exact words were that the film was:
quote:

completely way off from what really happened

You know neither the content of the film, nor the engineering details of the disaster. I have seen both.

It doesn't make you stupid. But it does make you ignorant.

And Lionsgate is a Canadian company.

“The story that’s portrayed in the movie is certainly far apart from the actual reality of what occurred,” said Scott Bickford, a New Orleans attorney who represented a victim’s family and a survivor named Mike Williams, who is the hero of the film played by Mark W

quote:

The members of the drilling crew, 10 of the 11 men killed in the explosions, are all portrayed as victims of BP’s rush to complete the project. The federal Marine Board investigation, however, found that the drilling crew made some critical errors.

Also, a Transocean employee named Andrea Fleytas, who is portrayed in the movie by Gina Rodriguez, is shown fighting her boss to be able to sound a critical alarm when gas starts rushing into the area where the drilling crew was working. In fact, the real Andrea Fleytas testified before the Marine Board that she was overwhelmed by more than 10 magenta warning lights going off at once and failed to sound the general alarm when she had the authority to do so. “And as a result of not sounding the general alarm a minute to 90 seconds went by where men who were in places where there was methane gas in high concentrations stayed,” Bickford said. “And those places blew up and those men died.”

just a few from someone that has seen it. I am sure there are more.

yep one more here

There are other minor factual errors in the film, such as friendships and phone calls that didn’t really happen or the repeated depiction of gas and oil breaching the sea floor around the well before and during the blowout. That provided a foreboding image of bubbles seeping out of the ground, reminding the viewer that trouble is brewing below, but forensic reviews of the accident found that nothing like that happened. Can't imagine this being anything other than a 90 minute lecture from Hollywood about how bad oil is.

I know someone who is portrayed in the movie, a prominent character, and I can tell you from the trailer, that the portrayal of people and events look to be total crap.

I was involved with the incident and know people depicted in the movie. Their portrayals are defaming and slanderous. This movie is a joke and shouldn't have used real people's names.

Like I said in a different thread, the character Mark Walhberg is portraying is the main character and Mike Williams is no hero. He was one of the first ones to take off running crying like a baby yet he sold his soul to Hollywood to make a dollar. He was green as green can be an only moved into an electricians position by "staying up under a desk". He couldn't even find his way around a rig. His interviews are hideous. He's nothing but a liar and takes away from the true heroes.
The real ones didn't make it off and the others risked their life to try to save others. This movie really hits home. Let's just say I was one day lucky
