You can't remake a classic like Bill and Ted!

None, ever. I don't like remakes

From your list, these remakes will be terrible:
Bill/Ted
Taxi Driver (Why would you suggest this?)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I don't think Bill & Ted would work today. I could see a Summer School remake since although it is popular it is not really looked at as a classic.

I could see a Dune or Bill and Ted remake being decent.

I think better than this would be bad movies that had a lot of potential that should be attempted again (improve cast, rewrite bad parts).

They need to remake Jaws 3.

How the frick do you have Jaws attack Sea World, and not end the movie with a Jaws/Shamu showdown?

The Godfather parts 1 and 2. Leave 3 alone though, it was perfect

so is that Dune remake a remake of the movie, or a movie that actually follows the book?

They keep trying and failing with Dune.

I didn't hate the original especially the director's cut, BUT I didn't read the books until after I saw the movie.

The Sci-Fi channel remake mini-series weren't terrible. In fact I liked them even with some bad acting in certain spots. I was pissed they stopped after Children of Dune.

At one point Peter Berg was set to remake Dune but he opted out for Battleship. The script for Dune must have been god awful if he thought Battleship was the better job.

There was supposed to be a 2014 release date for the next stab at it, but I think it might be back in developmental hell.

where it belongs

its at least 6 hours of content, so to be done right it either needs a trilogy green light (never happening) or a tv mini series (which wont have the production budget necessary)

id rather have no dune than a shitty dune.

They had one of these. It was a Letterbox movie put out on the SciFi channel. Obviously really cheap production value but at least they got the story mostly right.

Really the Dune books cannot be adapted to film in a way that does the story justice in my opinion. Just let them be.

I disagree. I don't think the director's cut was horrible. There were some odd changes in the movie that weren't necessary.

It isn't like the books are overly long. They could make decent movies under 3 hours.

I just think the studios are scared to death to make huge budget films with niche appeal.

The average person will run out to see a comic book film but not necessarily a political intrigue sci-fi movie.

Part of the problem is all of the internal dialogue. That comes off a bit cheesy.
