I recently found this series on the roku and couldn't stop watching it for the first two series but, somewhere late in the second season my interest started waning and some of the characters started getting on my nerves.
I'm in the third season and it's really down to one show a week now and the repetitive use of certain curse words and sophomoric behavior by certain characters is making the show almost unbearable.
It's like Timothy Oliphant quit directing and started parroting somewhere along the way.
Anybody else feel the same?

The show is generally well regarded on this board but I don't think anyone disputes the quality of the show (good or bad) is largely the result of David Milch. Ian McShane was also the dominant actor of the series. That's my opinion but one that seems to be shared by many if you look at who was nominated for and won acting awards for the series.
So far as I know the only director from the series who won any notable awards was Walter Hill.
The profanity issue is real for many people. IMO it is clearly characteristic (for better or worse) of the dialogue that Milch created. I could easily see how binge watching (esp if you had a critical relative popping their head into the room periodically) would make it wear thin.

Kidding!

The only part of the show I disliked was the ending.

Loved the show all the way through, McShane's use of cocksucker was I thought pretty funny and in character,

Well, that wasn't supposed to be the ending of the show, just that season, or am I incorrect?

but even if it was just meant to be the end of the season, it sucked.
We had all this tension and build up for this great showdown, then...nothing happened.

I just finished the series earlier this week and I got bored around the same time you did.

I thought it was a good show, but this board seems to hold it in much higher regards than I do.
Deadwood could have been so much better. Don't get me wrong, I loved the dialogue, but the scenery and action could have been a lot better than it was. Basically the entire series is shot in about 5 rooms, which bored me.
Eta: you should edit the title so it's not just one word. You're at risk of an anchor currently.

Well, they got canceled during the filming of the third season so they rushed the ending.

I have no problem with the ending.
My only problem with season 3 was the horrible acting troupe and not enough Doc Cochran and he was sick when we did see him.
Young man, as much as I hate the acting troupe, Langrishe has grown on me with each rewatch.

No, I enjoyed all three seasons. Though I would say the first was the best.

Wasn't like that for me. I had always heard how good Deadwood was. I finally gave it a shot last summer and ended up binge-watching it through season 3. I was left unsatisfied and starving for more...
Despite only being 3 seasons, it's one of my favorite HBO shows. Too bad it was abbreviated.

quote:I actually felt that the ending made 100% sense rushed or not. Given the historical characters, it was about the only way to end it and it had to be quick otherwise the whole town was going to end up in a bloodbath.
so they rushed the ending.

The ending was realistic- Hearst left and got the Garrett claim, why would he engage Swearengen & Bullock? There would be no reason to.

I still miss that damn show terribly.

Yep, great show overall but obviously anti-climatic ending. Somewhat analogous to Rome in that it seemed run out of gas at the end. I've heard Rome had funding issues. Not sure what the deal was with Deadwood. Maybe as suggested by the OP, too many found it offensive.
