Making a separate thread since this comes up in the Arrow threads, the Flash threads, and the Superman/Batman/Justice League threads.

Geoff Johns: DC’s Film and TV Universes Will Stay Separate

quote:

Johns reiterated that the Justice League that appears in the big screen will be different from any that viewers might see on Warner Bros. television series.

“It’s a separate universe than film so that the filmmakers can tell the story that’s best for film,” he said. “While we explore something different in a different corner of the DC universe.”

I have no problem with this. I don't watch the TV shows and now I definitely won't.

Smart move on their part, as they're expanding into television way faster than Marvel is. Keeps all of their TV options wide open. This is why we're seeing tons of DC characters in every DC television series while Marvel's SHIELD was hamstrung to featuring very few.

If a creator like del Toro wants to make a Justice League Dark, he doesn't have to worry about what's been set in the Constantine series. He's not cornered into using characters as they've been used by the TV writers.

Your loss buddy. Arrow is one of the best live action comic adaptations to come on tv. And the pilot of Flash was awesome as well.

In a thread that was posted earlier (I think it is 3 pages back now), this article was linked: LINK

Here is a quote that interested me in that link that I posted in the other thread:

quote:

But… longer term, just perhaps adding a little fuel to the rumor fire that DC may be leading up to an annual Justice League television mini-series event which could be announced San Diego this year, exec producer Greg Berlanti also adds: Also, the producers are aiming high up on the DC roster. “Between [Arrow and Flash], we’ll have half the Justice League on our two shows this year,”

This is neither good nor bad news. It's news.

The thing is, it's fairly clear that they are REALLY trying to distance themselves from Marvel. That's either incredibly stupid, because what Marvel has done prints money, or it's incredibly smart and will differentiate them enough to see great success on both fronts.

Have a purpose, don't be different just to be different.

I agree with you on that. I would've stuck to a closer line with what Marvel has proven to be successful. But if DC can pull it off, then props to them.

On a side note, if DC does screw up their Movie universe like some are worried about, at least their tv universe won't be hurt by it (and that may be a reason for DC wanting to keep them separate for now).

What I don't like is that I feel you're going to get the A team on the screen.....and that A Team on the television. There will be no room for someone like Dick Grayson as a real explored character (unless he's awesome on the Flash). I'm not sure they have the resources to do this rumoried JL on the TV and JL on the screen thing. We'll have 2 Flashes, 2 GL's, 2 Batmans, 2 Green Arrows, etc. But no real Nightwing character, Animal Man, Red Tornado, Blue Beetle, etc.

What Marvel has done is allowed really awesome characters who could never have their own film, Jessica Jones, the Defenders, to hopefully find a niche on a screen in the related world.

Funny when I posted it most liked the idea. Today when it's posted, most don't like the idea.

It's Marvel that is being different. Traditionally the movie and TV universes of the comics companies have remained separate (with the Adam West movie as the exception). Smallville on TV with a different Superman in the movies, X-Men on film with an alternate version on X-Men Evolution, the Batman Animated series going on while the Schumaker movies were out...

TV is where DC is seeing the most growth for their characters, it makes sense for them to allow creators to expand on that without having to worry about tying into the movies.

With the changes in programming initiatives on animated television, we're not going to see another era of great animated superhero series. DC is making hay where they can (and it looks like it will work for them).

Other than Agent Carter, Dardevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage/Iron Fist?

I forgot about Daredevil. That one looks good. Is it going to tie into the movies?
