Bitching about the casting, release dates, etc. around the Justice League movies is becoming tiresome. Nobody seems to talk about what the storylines might be.
Maybe there's a reason there isn't a stand alone Batman movie. One would think that would be a slam dunk because Batman is arguably the most popular character within the DC Universe. On the other hand, Ben Affleck is playing an older Batman who is possibly coming out of retirement. Kind of hard to make a series of Batman movies beyond the JL around an older Batman who's past his peak. Perhaps....Batman dies in the Justice League movie.

more likely is we get a Batman Beyond type thing where Affleck is in the command center most of the time and has to put on mechanical suits when/if he goes out.

Captain Marvel/Shazam is one of the most interesting characters to me. If you like Spider-man, the same themes are there in Shazam. A young kid who finds himself in possession of incredible power and must now deal with those consequences.
Always loved his stories and has perhaps one of the greatest villains in Black Adam.

The problem with Captain Marvel is that he works best when he's at his corniest. He's still a great character when he's darkened and made serious, but his claim to fame is that his lighter, brighter, more fun series of comics outsold Superman and eventually led to the Superman family of comics becoming what they were in the 50's and 60's. (Thanks to Otto Binder and Kurt Schaffenberger moving from Fawcett to DC.)
Modern DC did him best in the Justice League cartoon, where he was the antithesis of the then brooding and distrustful Superman and Justice League.
I'd understand if they wanted another mega-powered bad-arse superhero to battle Black Adam (the villain who makes Zod look like a lightweight). But I'd hope that they'd lighten it up and let the kids have a movie that they can enjoy as well. When done right Cap's the best kids superhero of them all.

I completely agree. I never considered them turning him into the "dark and gritty." I would be very disappointed. I compared him to Spider-Man because he carries a similar tone and theme as that character. I would hope they want to capture the younger market like Spider-Man generally does. Would they really make a 10 year old dark and gritty? I really hope not.

I don't know if I agree w/you when you say he works best when he's corny.
Now there was a lot of cheese back in the classic comics but that was more due to the comics code being so lame.
I think some of his best stories have easily been the darker ones.
Being brainwashed in Kingdome Come, his unfortunate encounter w/Superman in InJustice: Gods Among Us, and the more recent JSA where he is dating the teenage Stargirl which looks like a pedo relationship to the heroes who dont know he is actually a kid are some of the more memorable story lines in the last 20 years.
hell, the whole reason there is a Captain Marvel Junior (is b/c CM was fighting Captain Nazi which lead to CN crippling Freddy Freemon and murdering his grandfather.
Now, I do agree that is very important for him to still hold some wide eyed child like naivete for the comic to work. But that doesn't necessarily have to be cheesy. (and yes I am aware that Tawny is extremely difficult to pull off w/o being cheesy)

He was 12 in the classic comics, I believe he was 10 at the start of the 90s Power of Shazam series (but may have been a little older when he actually got his powers), was 14ish post PoS pre New 52, and he is currently 15 and pissed off in the New 52 variation.

sorry, I was a off a year.
it was 15 at the start of New 52.
depending on who is writing it I've seen him be everything from 10 to full grown adult.
Usually they stay in the 12-16 range.

I agree with Dr RC. I don't think an extremely campy version of Billy would work as well on the big screen. His story in Kingdom Come is my favorite.
Now with that said, I also don't think he should be dark and serious either. I think he is best portrayed when he is optimistic and extremely trusting , even to the point of being somewhat naive. But you can do that without making him extremely campy or corny.

they really need to pick a real teenager that looks young and not some 28 year old done up as a teen.
I think it would be best to find two similar looking brothers that are about 10-15 years apart in age to play Marvel and Billy because Billy is supposed to grow up looking exactly like he does when he is Marvel.
of course, that is much, much easier said than done.

Shazam in the DC animated movies is pretty cool. they just need to get a kid with a lot of charisma and it'll be cool.
