I had never heard of this story until I went to a movie the other day and this show was in the commercials before it started. I instantly was intrigued and googled the whole story and read most of it before the movie started. Pretty interesting shite but I feel like it's most likely a ghost hunt which will end up providing nothing new.

With the technology we have now I dont think it should be too terrible difficult to get down to what they are looking for.

I tend to agree - the most fascinating part of the entire story is the hunt itself, and the variety and number of people drawn in by it.

Meh - the island still finds a way to conceal its secrets - until the 7th soul is delivered - blood debt must be paid.

It's more a matter of money. It's in Canada and the expedition is being funded privately.

Yeah. I have no idea what is down there, but it is/was something important. I haven't watched last night's episode yet, so I only read the OP.

There is little question that it is seawater - but whether it is a natural characteristic of the island, a result of, perhaps a clandestine saltworks, or intentional boobytrapping remains part of the mystery.
What leads to even more confusion about this theory is that in last nights episode they were drilling dry holes at 150 feet deep around the money pit. Then they hit water drilling into a hole they previously tried to drill and the damn rig nearly sunk.

Yeah, but I actually buy that there are so many previous holes and cavities from prior searches around there that is a lot of soft fill and not hard packed ground. The first couple of holes were away from the previously dug out spots and they seemed fairly conventional.

That third hole was in a spot where they kind of knew it was soft and likely wet - they are playing the game a little bit.

The first expedition in the swamp still has me puzzled. All of the metal readings they got and only found that coin.

The rest of that metal is "metal vapor" - didn't you see the follow up? Probably "metal vapor" from the vault.

Yea, I saw it. Still confusing. I was skeptical of that first metal guy. He's the one who found that first coin and I haven't seen him back on the show.

Yea, this last episode was good. I can't wait for them to dig on top of that chamber.

Whelp it looks like they found the vault in the money pit this week. I already wanna know what the medal object at 170 ft is

Seeing the upcoming previews, it looks like they find a coin of the Knights Templar

Shits getting real

I watched an episode or two of this show with my parents the other day

I really hate the pacing and the narration of this show. I don't need to be reminded every 15 minutes of what the treasure "could be" (the ark of the covenant? yeah fricking right) so shut up and just get on with it

Yeah. It seems like they are close to some significant finds. You get just enough each episode to keep you interested. I can only imagine how it must be for the guys in real life.

I've never watched this show. It all seems interesting, but I don't have the patience to watch all these episodes, especially with the possibility that they don't find anything.

They find things. You just don't know if they will make the huge find or not.

The funniest part of the show was when they brought in the scuba diver for the swamp. He dove backwards into a foot of water and and continued to look around in shallow water. Something that a normal person could pick through on all fours.

The show seems scripted and the two main characters are annoying. Just before they are about to give up on every episode ole Oak Island gives them another clue.

I'm not going to deny that - it is fairly carefully cast, no question.

I think that hippie/liberals are supposed to like Rick and greedy conservatives are supposed to like Marty and that offers something for everyone. But, I agree, they can both be fairly annoying.

Faked or not, this is what has happened there to hundreds of people over hundreds of years - at least a half dozen significant expeditions, some of them quite extensive. Again, I was hooked almost 40 years ago. I'm not watching religiously, but I will be curious to see what, if anything, new is revealed by the Laginas' effort.
