Concerning Quicksilver's speed (spoilers)

I know a lot of people think that he was given too much speed in the recent X-Men movie. That is certainly up for debate.
So how fast was he?
Well, let's talk about the Speed of Light. At the speed of light, you are travelling approx 18,600 miles in 1/10th of a second or about 980 million feet in 1/10th of a second. You would travel around the Earth over 7 times in a second.
In the recent X-Men movie, we see Quicksilver rescuing almost everybody from the school before the explosion gets to them.
So, let's say he rescued 50 people. (I know he rescued several at a time in a few instances and he dallied around a bit, but for ease of math, let's just say he made 50 trips.) Each trip required going into the school, finding someone, and bringing them outside. So, being very liberal, let's say each trip was 500 feet total. That's a total of 25,000 feet he traveled.
Gunpowder explodes at 600-900 ft per second. Super fast explosions can reach 25,000 feet per second. Let's say the explosion in the school was somewhere in the middle, at 12,500 feet per second.
Assuming the explosion went about 250 feet, Quicksilver would have had to rescue everyone in about .02 seconds.
Quicksilver, then, was traveling about 850,000 mph. Speed of light is about 67 million miles per hour. So Quicksilver was going about 1/120 the speed of light.
In the first Superman movie with Reeves, he was flying around the Earth several times per second. (Of course, he didn't have the friction of the atmosphere to deal with.) So, you could argue that Superman is approx. 100 times faster than Quicksilver. Which would explain his speed in Batman vs Superman. Now, it took him some time to build up that speed in the original movie, but even early on, he was getting it pretty good.
A few notes:
1) I'm am very ignorant in the world of comics. I'm sure there are many instances of speed we could study.
2) I'm a pretty poor mathematician. My math may be way off. I tried to use online calculators/converters where I could. Someone please check my math.
3) I used approximations.
4) I understand there can be other opinions on how many trips Quicksilver made, or if he would be faster building up a head of steam.
5) We don't know exactly how long the explosion was going before QS started, so factor in a bit more time for that. So instead of 1/120th the speed of light, let's cut him some slack and say he was going 2x that fast and was going 1/60th the speed of light. Still 60x slower than Superman. And would take him about 8 secs to get around the Earth.
I don't know how that compares to Flash or other fast superheroes.

Jesus tittyfricking Christ...
It's just a freaking movie.

Barry Allen is the fastest man alive.
It is known.

And the acceleration would have turned everyone he was carrying into a red mist, not to mention incredible hypersonic booms... unless of course he has some sort of "protection field" or some chit. Doesn't matter though, the Quicksilver scenes are awesome!

Does marvel have a version of the speed force?

One of the only areas where I think DC did it better than Marvel. The Flash controls the Speed Force. That's the protection field that allows the beliveability of what he does.

Yup, Superman is often too powerful.
He can still be interesting, but being Faster than Light (essentially), Invincible, Super Strong, Super Intelligent, etc., is just a major cop out most of the time.

I don't think so. There was a Marvel/DC crossover storyline back in the early 00's in which Flash lost his speed when he traveled to the Marvel Universe. The reason was because Speed Force doesn't exist in that universe.
But, there was a previous story about Marvel's speedsters racing across space. An unnamed/unknown speedster who looked like Barry Allen won the race and was declared the fastest man alive. Marvel did this in homage to Allen, who was dead at the time. And this story took place prior to the introduction of Speed Force in the comics.

Well great. Now I have to start calculating g forces and chit.

And not to mention he came from a planet filled with people with these powers. Despite pretty much being a bunch of demi-gods they didn't conquer other planets and only a small handful escaped their planet's destruction.

I literally can't even right now

No, he came from a planet filled with people that, if exposed to the rays of a yellow sun like we have on earth, would have his powers. Krypton circles a red son, so Kryptonians, while being technologically advanced well beyond earthlings, are no more super powered than you or I on their home planet. Expose them to a yellow sun, and they become demi-gods.

You don't say.
This thread, like superhero movies, is for entertainment purposes. Just having a little fun comparing speeds of superheroes, sound, light, etc.
Not entertained? Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

Still Superman was given every power imaginable.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think Superman's list of powers is ridiculous. So are the gadgets on Batman's utility belt. DC has a history of writing for immature audiences that go crazy over "super ventriloquism" and "bat shark repellent".
