Might be the worst performance I've ever seen by an actress, and proof that the Coen Brothers are capable of big mistakes.

One of my favorite Coen Bros movies. Saw it for the first time when it came out at a friends house tripping on shrooms but didn't know the name of it and it wasn't until years later that I found out and was able to watch it again.

She was over the top with the 30's accent, but I'm certain that's what the Coen's wanted. See: the "Buddy" elevator guy. I thought she did OK.

I did too. I took the role and Transatlantic accent to be both camp and homage to Hepburn and others from the 30s and 40s.

It's understandable how that could get on a viewer's nerves, but I'm sure she did exactly what they wanted.

She was better than you think. I'll bet my Pulitzer on it.

She was supposed to be "fast talking career gal" spoof.

Hell look at Paul Newman, you could say he was worse.

I've actually enjoyed some of his takes on the M/TV board. He's one of the only people that has seen and given props to Mary & Max (superb movie).

I liked the movie, don't get me wrong... but JJL was way too over the top with that fake accent. I thought Tim Robbins and Buddy the Elevator Guy were pretty decent, while Paul Newman was bleh. I enjoyed the direction, the richness of the sets, and the personal and business exaggerations.
