Comic Book vs. Video Game based movies

Disclaimer: I am not a gamer.
I was reading through some synopsis of books while looking for something to read on a trip and I came across a pretty cool story in what I thought was a "book" series. Long story longer, I read 3 of the Gears of War books. Thought about how cool a movie would be.
With the seemingly over saturation of Comic based movies do you think Hollywood will ever swing back to a few good game based again? If so, which would you like to see made into a movie?

Has there ever been a good video game movie, ever?
I liked Street Fighter when I was younger, and Mortal Kombat was entertaining. But neither of those are very "good" movies.

Understatement. I get mad everytime I hear of the next comic book movie coming out. Or a pointless, too soon reboot. Then I get even madder bc I go see almost all of them. Hollywood is running out of ideas for sure.
As far as video game movies, I think there's a Call of Duty coming out. I'm not a gamer, I have a ps4/xbox 1 but I never play them. If I do its only madden, fifa, and mlb. Can't see those being made to film

You could have said the same about comic book movies before the current success they are having. Maybe World of Warcraft and Assassins Creed will be the movies to ignite the video game movie genre. Or maybe they will suck just like all the previous attempts.

Could Hardcore Henry almost be considered a video game movie?

True. I mean it's not like Spider-Man did anything in the 2000s. Or the Blades. Or the Batmans before that in the 80s/90s. Or the Supermans before that. Etc.

World of Warcraft
Even though I don't really care for the franchise, I'm pulling for this one. I would hate to see Duncan Jones' career go in the shitter due to this tanking.

Assassin's Creed
Last I heard, Fassbender was attached to this. So I hope that means it won't be awful.

Because GOOD is so subjective and personal I probably should have said game based movies you liked. Any way, here are a few I enjoyed. Not cinematic masterpieces but fun to kill an hour or 2 with...My opinion only.
Couple of the Resident Evils
1st Tomb Raider
1st Hitman
I also liked liked Doom

Spiderman was the one that really started the superhero influx. Before that you had a few successes like Superman or the Keaton Batmans.

Movie studios are just now starting to take video games seriously. We've got Angry Birds, Warcraft and Assassin's Creed this year and a new Tomb Raider in the works. Not to mention Resident Evil 6 or whatever that's currently in production. If those are all hits then maybe we'll see more.
Any studio looking for an easy hit has ready made stories in Uncharted, The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid, and Red Dead Redemption just to name a few. I still can't believe the Halo movie never got made.

They should. I just looked it up and Gears sold 20
+ million copies of its first 2 versions and Assassin's Creed 8 sold over 70 million.

I do remember the first Resident Evil being pretty good.
I didn't see some of the sequels, and I know that they made a good bit. But they were pretty successful from what I remember.

The only one that became a franchise aka movie series is Resident Evil.
One other that I think could make it well as a franchise, since the majority of game based movies stick to 1-2 being made, would be:
Altered Beast (the way old school Sega Genesis game with that pretty epic sounding background music. Since it had levels to it, it can become a great franchise).
RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE! Instead of too much CGI, they could go the costume and make up artist route by far, like how it is in The Walking Dead series.
