My all time favorite anything tv/movie related is Band of Brothers.

At the end of the series when the real Dick Winters tells of hiw he answered his grandson when he was asked if he was a hero... "No but I served in a company of heroes."

It grabs at me. A different generation. A group of men who cared for others before themselves. That's why it's our greatest generation.

Even in the 20th viewing this series still moves me. Makes me wish I could be that type of person.

"No, but I served in the company of heroes" makes me tear up every single time I see it. Every time.

Greatest generation and it's not close.

Dick Winters.

I hate when it comes on because I immediately stop what I am doing.

Not to diminish what Major Dick Winters and his brothers did in ANY way shape or form, but I'm sure older people in the late 1930s were saying the same things about the young whippersnappers that went on to become the "greatest generation." That generation has serious flaws just like any that came before it and all that will follow it. There are great men and women in that group that continued the magnificent tradition of our excellent nation.

But I truly believe there are still people of the same character in this country today.

quote:

We never know how high we are
Till we are called to rise;
And then, if we are true to plan,
Our statures touch the skies—

The Heroism we recite
Would be a daily thing,
Did not ourselves the Cubits warp
For fear to be a King—
