I enjoyed Haunted(2005).

I unfortunately agree. I just don't think he is capable of churning out a quality novel every year. I wish he would slow down.

unfortunately when youre overly concerned with being "shocking" it wears out eventually.

See, the thing is, Chuck's books were good beyond being shocking. They were funny and full of interesting characters and engaging themes. He is a good writer. The problem is that he refused to grow up and he keeps trying to rewrite Fight Club, which isn't even his best book. I'll give him points for trying something in Haunted, even though I didn't like it, but he's been looking backwards for too long instead of looking forwards. It would be interesting to see how the counterculture ages. Do you keep raging against the machine or do you give up? Somewhere in between? There's still stories that can be told in his universe. Just shift the perspective.

If you want to see a how a sequel written about the movie adaptation and not the original book goes, I point you to Porno, Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting sequel. Or better yet, just trust me... it's God awful.
This is an unnecessary cash in, and has almost no chance of actually being good. So, yeah. I'll buy it. Damn you, Chuck.
This is my fear.

Now I'm never coming back to this thread in fear of snakes being posted.
