If you have 90 mins to kill, American Justice did a show called "Vegas and the Mob". They cover all the real life characters in the movie Casino. I found the show on DailyMotion. It's broken down into 9 ten minute segments.

Pretty neat to see the differences between Hollywood and real life.

Head to DailyMotion (or download the app)

Search : "BIO: Vegas and the Mob (1of9)"

Enjoy.

The movie uses quite a bit from real life. Nicki walking out of court with cameras. That really happened to the real mobster.

I can't remember if Nicki IRL gets whacked in the desert.

One difference I noticed was that Ace Rothstein (Robert De Niro) and Phillip Green (Kevin Pollak) seemed to have a working relationship in the movie. In real life, Lefty Rosenthal and Allen Glick did not get along at all.

Watch Goodfellas and then read the book Wiseguy by Henry Hill. Extremely close to the point where a lot of dialogue for the movie is directly quoting the words in the book.

The place of death is not 100% confirmed. The best evidence is that they were called to a meeting somewhere. Some reports it was a hunting lodge. Another was to a basement somewhere in Illinois. The Illinois basement theory is eerily similar to how Henry Hill described the death of Pesci's character (which was a composite, but mainly Thomas DiSimone). Spilotro was already made, of course, before he even went to Vegas, but supposedly they were going to make his brother Michael into the Chicago Outfit, and killed them both upon arrival.

This is similar to Hill's version of DiSimone's death after being lured to a location where he was supposed to be inducted in the Lucchese family.

The disposal area was, as typical for Mafia hits in the Midwest or West, in a remote location.

It was a complex of 3 (I think), but the main one was the Megacasino Stardust.

ETA: Yeah, the Stardust was the primary property, but Argent also owned the Fremont, the Hacienda and the casino portion of the Marina - so 4 casinos/3 hotels on 4 properties. Lefty was the de facto CEO for all of those on behalf of Allen Glick (legally) and the Chicago Outfit (no shite).

When did Steve Wynn become a player? And how did he not end up killed?

Seems he was around before the whole fed shutdown and business takeover that the end of Casino talks about.

Had to be a fine line he was walking. Especially with the number of people getting killed? If the movie isn't expanding too much.

Frank and Geri's daughter all grown up

She runs a facilities management company, having learned the lesson her father never did: Take the food and beverage concession and keep a low profile.

11 minute video on Spilotro. interesting old footage of him through the yrs. Can't believe this little dude was so feared on the streets. I guess he really had to be a crazy SOB.

Did it touch on the relationship between the Mormon Church bankers who helped the mob launder a TON of dough.

I know they showed one of the Mormons who worked for them getting killed in Coast Rica

Mormon Church

Howard Hughes is at least partially responsible for this. By the time he got to Vegas, he was convinced he could only trust Mormons. That was in the 1960s.

The real person is George Vandermark - I'm not 100% certain he was Mormon (although the character was in the film). Vandermark was the Slots manager and one of the best cheats in casino history, by reputation. He was also last seen in Phoenix, not Central America (although reports conflict on how/where/if he was killed - some reports even suggest he might have faked his own death/survived the ordeal) - here's the kicker they only touched on in the film - the authorities estimate that $7 million was skimmed, but only about $4 million made it to the Outfit. Vandermark may have kept up to $3 million himself, although some of that may have gone to silence others who knew he was skimming the skim, like "his guys" in the count room.
