Did Ty play poorly on purpose so that Danny would be the hero?
He was playing well before Danny joined in the match.

Yes, and Dottie dropped the ball on purpose too.

No she didn't.

He sh#t the bed because he hadn't played competitive golf in years and was drained of all Chi by Lacy Underall.

Murray bailed everyone out with C-4.

Just 12 hours before the big match, Ty was smoking grass and cannonballing liquor with Carl.

He probably didn't even know what day of the week it was, much less have the faculties to purposefully play poorly but still keep the score close enough to let Danny bring it home.

Exactly. The pressure obviously got to him. And it helps explain why he was such a burnout in Caddyshack II. I love it when movies have continuity between the original and the sequel.

On a serious note, Ty being nervous does help explain why he hit a ball into Carl's shack. Although I'm sure the cannonball afterwards didn't help his performance the next day.

He would get nervous if score was being kept. He never kept score. He would only measure himself against other golfers by height.

I always took it as, he knew he was awesome and didn't need to prove it to anyone.

Didn't he have all kinds of uncashed paychecks from playing pro golf?
