Haven't started it yet but it is the story of the high school football team from a scam school in Columbus OH.

Wiki link if you want to read about it beforehand.

I saw a preview of this but didn't really understand..

quote:

Former player Aaron Boyd stated in an interview with Complex that athletes were recruited under the premise of the school being the "IMG of the Midwest".[4] However, many of their student-athletes were older than high-school age, and there was no real campus. Instead, athletes were housed in a hotel for five months, with the only schooling being one visit to a public library. The school also struggled to maintain coaches as 80% of the coaching staff quit during the season and the team was left with just two coaches and one mother of a player. The players were also not provided with food and some players resorted to stealing from supermarkets to eat.[4]

Complex also conducted an anonymous interview with two former Bishop Sycamore students. They revealed that then head coach, Leroy Johnson, recruited the students with the prospect of "practicing at Ohio State's facilities".[5] In reality, they held practice outside of an apartment complex that housed students at Ohio State. The team also did not have athletic trainers, which resulted in the athletes playing injured. The apartments housing the students frequently evicted them after Johnson failed to pay rent. Many players already graduated from high school and there "were four or five kids that were 20, 21, [and] had children of their own".[5] A number of players had legal issues; at one point so many players had active arrest warrants that the team could not fly to away games. One player joined the team immediately after being released from jail. The team also struggled with camaraderie; a former player claimed there were at least five fights at every practice

Sounds like the old U teams

at least they got it over with and didn't drag it out into 7 parts.

"docuseries." You can be sure they've stretched it out as far as possible. Like your mom.

It was really odd.

That guy is a total sociopath. And he's crazy enough that he'll think he's living out his dreams by having a hit-piece doc made of his blunders.

Pretty entertaining documentary.

I’m having a hard time thinking of a more smug, despicable human being than Roy Johnson.

I always wondered what happened, but they gave him what they wanted. It a shame about the Grambling offer, I mean if he was good enough to attend Grambling why not attend as a walk on? The loan will probably get him in trouble, but what if they took a loan out was trying to push it on him? I remember taking a loan out at 18 for collage to cover what my grant did not.

Also, one of the flaws in one of the boys story was that they asked for proof of social security numbers and what not, do high schools not ask for this anymore?

While I think Roy was talking bullshite, the silent dude who they called Black Thanos seem to be a bit more honest? He also seem really offended by what that one guy said that Roy was going off on.

I was waiting for the whole race angle to come up and there it was reliably at the end. Sure it sucks these guys couldn't make it in, but what about the thousands upon thousands of those black kids who got into all the other division schools? The system is giving more black kids from bad background a chance than anything else. So someone exploit it, but it wasn't about race, it was about money.

Finally, I wonder why IMG and ESPN didn't want to comment unless ESPN is making their own version? Either that or someone took some bribes somewhere and don't want it expose.

Finally, anyone thing Roy looks like EDP the pedophile eagle fan youtube?

I thought the point was Leroy was able to exploit them because they did not have a support system that might see through the bullshite.

You interpreted this a lot better than the other poster. He intentionally goes after poor, desperate black kids because he knows he can exploit them easier.

You still have to have an actual high school diploma to attend the university. He didn't have enough credits since it was a fake school.

They're embarrassed for not doing even the slightest bit of homework and ultimately enabling this scam artist's grift. ESPN wants this story to go away forever - no chance they would ever do any kind of 30 for 30 on this.

It's hard to put into words what a complete POS this sociopath is. I hope he finds the inside of a prison cell soon. Hopefully this documentary will put some pressure on someone at the SBA to look into these PPP loans.

I saw about 1 hour of this a couple nights ago and that guy is a total douchebag. He was acting like everything he did was above board and legit while 90+% of it was a total scam he perpetrated, not only against the kids, but against multiple businesses and other organizations.

I saw the part where that player got hurt on field playing against IMG and his side had absolutely NO qualified trainers to assist the guy with any medical help-----just one of the moms who came out on field to do what moms think they can do.

If his arse isn't already in jail, it surely needs to be on multiple charges of fraud, theft, embezzlement, endangering kids lives, etc., etc., etc.

He thinks he is a genius who is crafting sophisticated scams that everyone is too dumb to comprehend.

As I said on the MSB thread, I am stunned he hasn’t been arrested for wire fraud with all of the fake checks he’s used. Or for credit card, embezzlement, etc.

And that’s before getting into the PPP stuff.
