Sure it was.

It was half about justice, half about Hank getting his minerals off.

Walt manipulated and sabatoged Hank's investigation throughout the series... Can't fault Hank for going after Walt the way he did.

No it wasn't. Listen to the way Hank talks about it this season. It was an obsession, a pursuit to satisfy his own ego. He was fully prepared to give a giant "frick you" to anyone who got in his way, and the look of pure joy and accomplishment when he finally caught him (right before Jack put a peephole in his head) was that of pure selfish desire.

Nobody is faulting him, I'm simply saying he wasn't the saint some people make him out to be. Hank used everyone as a means to an end.

Sure it was an obsession but it's not like it ever stopped being about justice. Hank's career was about obsession.

Except he wasn't. He was ready to give up/not go against the department policy until they brought Pinkman in for tossing out the cash.

The Marie stealing thing bothered me in that it was a significant plot twist for an episode or two and then stopped without tying up the loose ends. They have two episodes left to settle it.

Hank hated Walt ever since Walt outdrank him and Flynn poolside. That "Leaves of Grass" book is probably drenched with Hank's semen over the thoughts of arresting Walt. You don't step in front of a runaway freight train just because you don't like what it's carrying. Hank is a count that got what he deserved.

Like when he took Walt on drug busts?

Like when he basically raised Walt Jr for Walt?

Like when he was doing his job as a DEA agent?

GTFO with this shite.

Even the article in the OP highlights that he wasn't perfect or saintly, just that he had the moral compass everyone else seemed to lack.

I am pretty certain that was just a plot device to show Marie isnt perfect. Everyone has their vices.

His sense of morality wasn't perfect, but to him, Jesse was nothing but another junkie criminal he dealt with throughout his career.

The scene that I think shows his moral compass, is when he wouldn't let Marie take Holly from Skyler.

nope, it was a plot device to show that hank was willing to compromise his 'moral compass' by covering for her.

If all we're talking about is a moral compass then that applies to pretty much everyone but Todd, the nazis and Lydia.

Jesse and Skyler have MASSIVE moral conflicts about what they have been doing.

Marie is a complete bleeding heart albeit annoying as frick.

Saul is clearly bothered by much of what goes on.

Even Walt has drawn plenty of moral lines in the sand. Even last week, he was willing to give up everything to save the guy who tried to put him in prison.

I'm not talking about a moral compass, I'm talking about Hank not being as noble and selfless as people wish he were. He used and manipulated Jesse every bit as much as Walt did, he simply did it for a "legal" means to an end.

Marie's stealing was used as a plot device about Hank. Her kleptomania was never really about her. it was about Hank's responses to it.

I'm almost 100% certain all cops would bail their wife out for similar infractions.

At least Hank didn't poison a small child.

What's the team this or that stuff about?

I like the Hank and Saul characters the most. Am I supposed to join a team?

What's wrong with pursuing your job assignment with all you've got? Selfish desire is what makes people great, whether it be sports, business or otherwise. Selfishness isn't always bad. We've all benefitted from Steve Jobs', Alexander graham Bell's, Sean Payton's selfish desire to be the best and do the best at their job. Most of the greats are consumed by their job often to the detriment of those around them.
