Episode 6 is Walt's first meeting with Tuco. Kinda goes without saying how badass that scene was.

I don't agree with the op, I didn't see it as slow or a hiccup.
Story was told about Jane, her father etc and just the relationship of Walter and Jesse at that point. To me, good dynamic and seeing Walter let the gaurd down, accept that all his work was tainted..I just didn't see it as slow or as bad as people make it out to be.
I can't pick a slowest part, but if I had to, I'd say Madrigal.

I thought the Fly episode was one of the funniest - if you can have funny moments in this type of show.

Yeah Saul could learn a thing or two from that episode.

I think the slowest part of the show was in the second season in the episodes directly following the resolution of the tuco plot.
Great episodes, but a bit slow.

I get it was to set up the OCD and attention to detail.
The fly set up more than that. The Fly established two things:
1. Walt's obsession with perfection via his pride
2. And the smallest contaminant could ruin "perfection" ie Walt's plans.
This episode actually centers around Walt and Jesse, and their relationship, that's it.
And Walt's relationship with Jesse is the "fly", it is the contaminant. His loyalty to Jesse, is his weakness. In a sense, the idea was Walt should have put Jesse down early, but by letting him hang around, Jesse would ultimately ruin everything.
That's the irony and symbolism of the episode. Walt was REALLY lecturing himself about the dangers of Jesse TO JESSE and not realizing it.
