It'll be lucky to reach $100 million in the U.S. on a $150 million budget. The international markets may help it make a little money, but it got destroyed by Happy Death Day at the box office this weekend.

This kind of saddens me seeing as how well-received this film was by critics. But let's be honest, they waited 30 years too long to make a sequel out of Blade Runner.

This. It's an absolute shame because that movie was amazing.

Never understood this. Does it matter where the money is coming from as long as it comes

Blade Runner 1982

And some other pretty decent movies (Princess Bride, Christmas Story, Shawshank, Fight Club, Citizen Cane, Wizard of Oz, It's a Wonderful Life)

I hate it for the investors, because this is why we can't have nice things. This is why we keep getting Fast & Furious #, Transformers, etc.

Smart movies generally don't sell. It's a shame.

It will cover its nut eventually. International sales and (I'd assume) high Blu-Ray sales. But it will be a critical and cult success for the most part.

For a niche sci fi detective film I don’t think the run time did it any favors

Could and should have completely cut out the k/Deckard fight and the junk yard action scene or condensed it into just K having to kill a couple of dudes after landing

Having said that, fricking awesome movie

Shouldn’t the anti-sequel, Hollywood is unoriginal crowd love that this flopped?

May be the best film to flop that hard

But the original performed poorly as did another great movie that released the same week...the thing. ET swamped them both

Citizen Kane is the greatest flop though.

I was in my 20s when the original came out and if I recall, it was a bit of a dud back then. I watched it at the University Theater with a very small crowd on a Saturday night. I've since been a huge fan and have all the collectibles, but I am not sure it needed a sequel. I loved "Arrival" and the non-linear time message in that movie. Ryan Gosling, I don't care for and Indiana Jones needs to go out to pasture - The Crystal Skull outing was an abomination of a movie. I hope this movie does well overseas. I'll wait for the DVD to come out. Live long and prosper and may the force be with you.LINK

Probably shouldn’t have released it in October

Fall tv back, football in full swing, nba back, baseball playoffs, etc.

Cut out 20 minutes, release it at a better date and sex up the promos and it would have done better

For the DVD campaign, I'd show a lot more of this:

this is another blow to Alcon ... they haven't had a hit since Prisoners i believe.
It will break even after all the international markets are said and done, but still disappointing for them.

It is a great movie. It has lasting power. People will still be talking about this movie and it will also still be making money in some form 20 years from now. In 5 years no one will remember Happy Death Day. I guess it depends how you consider a flop.

Another thing I hear from people is that they’ve heard how awesome it is but they haven’t seen the original or they didn’t know it was a sequel

Think it would’ve been wise to promote the original get it on Netflix & Amazon in league with promotional material
