best would still have to be Its a Wonderful Life.
I always watch this on Xmas eve almost my whole life.
Ted Turner or someone Fu#ed me one year when he bought the full rights to the movie. Turned on my local PBS station which had shown it most of my life and it wasn't on.
Now I own it. Just a nice feel good movie that teaches us that even if we don't know it we can have a positive influence on those around us.

Never think of it as a Christmas movie but...

I totally disagree with movies that have a Christmas "setting" being labeled as a Christmas movie. Die hard? Should we include Gremlins and Lethal Weapon? They took place at Christmas also.
I think a Christmas movie requires the main character to have some kind of Christmas spirit related epiphany or there has to be some sort of christmas miracle. Where the story is Christmas, not the setting.
Just an opinion, not saying that any of you are wrong.
Having said all that, my favorites growing up were
Best Christmas Pageant Ever
One Magic Christmas
Merry christmas Charlie Brown

Hans Gruber: Now I have a machine gun. Ho Ho Ho.
McClane: You got any Christmas music?
Argyle: This is Christmas music.
John McClane: You throw quite a party. I didn't realize they celebrated Christmas in Japan.
Joseph Takagi: Hey, we're flexible. Pearl Harbor didn't work out so we got you with tape decks.
[last lines]
John McClane: Merry Christmas, Argyle.
Argyle: Merry Christmas.
Richard Thornburg: [to the camera] Did ya get that?
Argyle: [Argyle shuts the limo door] If this is their idea of Christmas, I *gotta* be here for New Year's.

I'm with you Tchefuncta Tiger. You hit my most favorite Christmas/holiday movie - Holiday Inn, Bing Crosby singing White Christmas and Fred Astire's dancing. I grew up watching that with my dad. For a current movie, I like Love Actually as well.

Which version of Dickinson's "A Christmas Carol" do you prefer best?
For me, the one with Alistair Sim (1951)
