If you're into sport, it's pretty good so far. Beckham's mom is unexpectedly savage. (About 54' in to S1E1, after some build up, it becomes really clear.) She would clearly stab someone in the face with a broken pint glass for her son.

The Falklands and the Hand of God goal got brought up, splendid. Queen Elizabeth being asked if she was cheering on England against Argentina, and her response, "Well, I think I should." Good lord, she smoked people in such a Brit way.

Finished tonight, thought it was really well done.

What are the other, non-fluff piece things to know about Beckham. Other than the cheating on Victoria thing that was glossed over and apparently a much bigger deal than it was made to be, anything? Was he really as good a teammate as portrayed?

I actually just watched a video from Ben Foster’s show
Darren Bent talking about his time
With England with Beckham as captain. Said did everything the right way, just “one of the lads” despite his fame

I expected it to be boring seeing some of clips on Instagram. I thoroughly enjoyed it and ended up watching all 4 episodes back to back. The old clips of the late 90's/early 00's United teams brought back so many great memories. For reference, it's like watching clips of the Drew Brees Saints offense. As a fan, you know you're likely to never to see that level again. I found it odd they interviewed all of Fergie's Fledglings except Ryan Giggs. I wonder if Giggs tried to make a pass at Posh Spice at some point.

I think they did a good job of describing his level in the doc. He was a very VERY talented player, but there are levels. His looks definitely enhanced his brand tremendously. He's not one of the best ever. I loved when he's describing who he can bring to play against his son. When it's him and Gary Neville his son is down. But bring in Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Zidane...then it's just not fair haha.

Given Giggs' reputation, he probably did at some point.

More than likely, they filmed much of this while his assault trial was still a thing.

Well made doc!

Beckham comes across as a very humble soft spoken gentlemen…despite the crazy tabloid, fashion stuff.

Only on episode 2, but happened to notice in the credits that Fisher Stevens directed?? Didn't even know he directed but apparently he has multiple things before.

Basically all of the highlights are him doing corner kicks and free kicks, even on Real Madrid. I take that to mean he was possibly the best in the world at those things. But it’s telling they never really show him dribbling and weaving through defenders, cutting to the goal, etc.

Was he as humble as portrayed? That would be the most surprising thing

He was more known for his passing. He had a perfect weight to his passes and the ability to put the ball exactly where he wanted.

Yeah SEC. 593 is correct. He could put the ball wherever he wanted but wasn't the most athletic.

I was kid when he was on United so I only knew of the man on the field. He had a new hairstyle every few weeks, so he didn't come across as a shy, humble guy. That doesn't mean he wasn't humble tho. Never heard of his teammates having an issue with him. Those guys rea;;y were like a family. 6 of the best players on the team basically grew up together

Great documentary and the nostalgia overload , dang! You can tell Beckham was respected and loved by a lot of his teammates. Had Ronaldo, Figo, and Roberto Carlos vouching for him as well. Amazing. Also what was Madrid thinking bringing Carlos Queiroz over with Beckham to Real? Idiotic.

Remember seeing the last home game of the 2002/03 season when he was tearing up before kickoff you could tell he knew he was gonna leave the club.

I only saw that bc i was a senior in hs and we got home from a party at like 5:30 am and the game started at 6

Think of his skill set as a Brees style QB on a soccer field, get him the ball with space and let him thread the ball in where it's needed.
"Bend it like Beckham" is the equivalent of saying "Kobe" on a soccer pitch when taking freekicks and corners.

As big of a celebrity that Beckham is, he didn't have the talent on the field to call the shots at a place like Madrid.

There's a reason that there is a movie called "Bend it like Beckham". There are few footballers who have such deadly placement can manipulate the ball on his level -> Pirlo, Del Piero, C. Ronaldo. Beckham and Zidane were quintessential midfielders.

Just started watching tonight and blew through three episodes. I could give a shite about soccer but have really enjoyed it. Far more engaging than I would have imagined.
