Haven't seen it yet, but outside of Luke Evans as Gaston, wasn't it just meh?

The Beast is good too. Actually I'd say most of the cast is pretty good other than Emma Watson. She's a decent actress but her singing parts are just missing something. Josh Gad is not great but that doesn't really detract from the film much.

They also made the townsfolk too evil and had Belle treat them poorly and them treat her poorly, which is a stark departure from the original where she was kind to all and loved by most.

I agree with most of this after seeing it yesterday. The Beast, Lumiere (the candelabra) and the wolves were the best parts. Emma Watson was good, but there is just something about her personality - or some intangible aspect I can't put my finger on - that just makes her a bit unlikable.

I feel like this movie is pretty much review-proof.

Yeah I plan on seeing it, I just know from various social media posts that it is indeed not going to be "one of the best movies EVARRR!"

I think part of it was the way they changed the interactions between her and the townspeople. I think they were trying to make the townspeople less likable and small-minded, but in doing so they also made Belle less likable because she isn't trying to be nice to everyone anymore and comes off like she thinks she's better than everyone instead of just hoping for more to life. Maybe it isn't all Emma Watson's fault.

No, she's a bad person and deserves a spanking. I guess I'll bite the bullet and administer her punishment.

That sounds exactly like Emma Watson IRL

The "Be Our Guest" number was incredible and should win an award for something. It was that good. The main dance with the title song sung was magic as well.

She was just so miscast. As soon as I heard "Little town, it's a quiet village." a big X came up in my head. Compare that to Luke Evans when he says "Belle is the most beautiful girl in the village; that makes her the best." I was sold at that point as it being very solid casting.
