I still can't get around the fact that Babe's director (Chris Noonan) was nominated for Best Director while Apollo 13's director (Ron Howard) was not.

It also irks me that Babe won for Visual Effects over Apollo 13.

Babe had some pretty amazing special effects for it's time. I'd say Ron Howard screwed out of a nomination by another director.

It's not his fault. He means well.

Baaaa Rammm Ewwwe

The thing that boggles my mind is that George Miller wrote the screenplay for Babe. How do you go from writing all of the Mad Max movies to writing Babe and Happy Feet? His filmography is quite strange to look at.

I re-watched it a few weeks ago for the first time since I've been an adult.

It is still a great, great movie. Totally deserving of the nomination.

So did Apollo 13. I watched it for the first time in a couple of years not too long ago and was surprised at how well the effects held up over 20 years later.
