Let me guess: The good guys win. Or, at least, the good guys stave off the bad guy enough to provide a space for many more sequels.

What do I win?

Some of my thoughts,
I enjoyed it for the most part. I’ll start out with things I hated.

First of all, how could they not address the ending of Iron Man 3? I get that a lot of fans hated it, but it’s supposed to be in your universe! Own that shite. He just starts the movie off with a suit on when the last movie he gave up being Iron Man. ETA: He didn't say he was done being Iron Man, but it certainly appeared that he was close. I guess I'm fine with that. Although it speaks volumes about the direction his character is going in, and I don't like it.

Second, the creation of Ultron. He talks to Banner for about 60 seconds and they decide to create him. There’s no weighing his options. He wants to bypass all of the paperwork and create this being that could easily destroy all of the Avengers. They have no idea how this AI will react and yet they make the same mistake that has been done in movies a hundred times. All because they want to go to the beach? Really? Man up Stark.

Third, the Banner/Widow love story. She went from being scared shitless of him, watching him destroy a hanger, to falling in love with him? This came way out of left field. Not only that but their scenes together were really lame, IMO. I thought they had absolutely no chemistry.

Those are the only major problems I had with it. There are a few smaller things. I felt some of the jokes were at the wrong moments when there should have been more focus on the emotional aspects. I felt like they went for more of an emotional story and yet they threw jokes out at the wrong times.

So what I loved about it

I loved the action sequences. They are kind of cartoony at times, but I personally like that for The Avengers because I think that’s the world they established.

I loved the Hawkeye storyline. I thought they brought a real personal feel to him and I thought they really made up for giving him a disappointing role in the first movie

I loved Scarlet Witch. I thought the way they did her powers was really cool. Her best scene was when she made Thor, CA, and Black Widow hallucinate. I thought it was cool to see some character history of Black Widow.

Maybe I’m leaving something out, I’m sure it’ll come to me. All in all though, I give it a 7/10.

was entertaining, but in some ways felt 'forced' or 'rushed' compared to the first one

This is how i feel. Just felt like Whedon didn't really want to do this one and was done after the first one. He kind of half assed this one IMO. Its decent, but could have been great.

He mailed this one in.

I would have rather they kept Quicksilver and let Hawkeye bite it.
Yea, maybe. Some people are saying that they didn't want to compete with X-Men and they decided to kill him off. The DOFP Quick was a much better character, IMO.

I think some of the actors sort of half assed it too.

There was one shot of Tony talking to Ultron where I could tell he was acting.

Just throw this one in with Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America 1 and the Incredible Hulk as just a big pile of meh that only leads to a bigger story.

They aren't bad movies, just not on the same level as Iron Man, Winter Soldier, Avengers and Guardians.

I honestly can't believe they threw out Iron Man 3. Their MO has always been that the stories connect.

Also, Quicksilver is an absurdly powerful character in this universe right now. He literally just wipes out everyone, hell he was punching through those robots like they were nothing. I'm shocked that he died and didn't really notice that he did, I thought they carried him away but Scarlet Witch seemed to know that he did.

Overall, I didn't like Hulk/Banner in this one like i did in the last. I think Ruffalo does as good a job as I could hope for the character but he seemed to take a backseat in this movie.

Downey Jr still killed the Stark/Iron man role. They started the movie off with him in the suit despite him blowing up his suits in IM3. He blew them up and said he was cutting back, not that he was done with Iron Man. I thought it strange that he had the drone army though after he said he was cutting back and was full go with Avenger fortresses. Seemed more obsessed in this one than the last.

I didn't care for Thor in this one, couldn't figure out what he was doing most of the time.

Captain America is really coming into his own right now in the movies. He was all over the place and fun to watch in general.

The Hawkeye story was really a nice touch.

I'll watch it again. If this is the case then that will change my view a little.

ETA: I watched the ending of Iron Man 3 again. He certainly appears to not be very interested in wearing the suit anymore, which would actually fold nicely into making Ultron.

I'm OK with that, I guess. Except that it really says something about what his character is turning into. He essentially builds a super powerful robot because he wants to stop being a hero. Due to the carelessness of his construction, the robot comes out wanting to destroy the world. It sounds like they're trying to go into the direction of Cap being the true hero of the Avengers and Iron Man just wanting to give up? I don't know man. It just seems like a mess now.

Yeah, it definitely was rushed way too much.

I agree the whole relationship was way too forced on us.

It was just the right amount of Hawkeye. I think anymore and it would of been too much. I would of been fine with less though.

I like the scene where Hawkeye tells her to man up or leave.

I don't get why he blows up all the house party suits just to create Avengers robots that serve the same purpose. I think I just prefer to forget that the abortion that is Iron Man 3 even exists.

Quicksilver dying falls in line with the current Inhumans arc in the comics.

For those who don't know, Wanda lashes out at Magneto with her brother in the same area, casting a spell to kill anyone in her bloodline in the immediate vicinity. To her surprise, only Pietro is killed. That causes her to laugh as it now makes both her and Magneto realize that he isn't actually their father.
