I really believe the success of that franchise could have saved his life.

I've always been curious to hear it, but Myers was fricking perfect for it. I mean,
come on, he's just perfect for the role:

Chris Farley's voice doesn't come across that well for voiceover imo... he's such a physical comedian that it just doesn't work without seeing him. I don't think the movies would have had the same amount of success with Farley.

Also, why would this franchise have saved Farley's life? If anything it probably would have created the same result as before.

This. His problems weren't the result of a lack of success. His success gave him the financial means to support his habits and created a circle of yes-men to enable it. More success would have perpetuated this cycle.

Chris would have been better if he did a Scottish accent. That's the only reason Meyers was better. He would have sucked too using his real voice.

I think that based on the drawings in that clip, if they had stuck with making Shrek look scruffy and rugged like that, Farley's voice would have fit.

With how Shrek eventually ended up, however, Myers' voice was perfect.

Not sure about life saving, but it would have helped. Farley 's success of course helped fund his bad habits, but most of what I've read say that his self-consciousness fueled them even more. He knew he was a fat slob and most of his laughs came from him taking that persona over the top. He would do anything for a laugh because he thought if people weren't laughing they didn't like him, and more laughs came the more he drank or snorted. Having the mega-success that came with Shrek just by sitting on a stool and providing his voice could have helped him see he didn't have to abuse himself for the friends

Yes, if Farley would have magically acquired Myers talent for voice acting, and figured out away to do the character in the same way Myers did, as good as Myers did, he would have been a good Shrek. Bravo good sir.

Talent for voice acting? The guys no Troy Baker or Nolan North. Meyers did a Scottish accent.

You can't really compare this to the final version because once they decided to recast they rewrote the script to accommodate the new version of the character. Shrek was designed specifically for Farley so they basically had to start over when they had a new actor.

Plus had Farley not died it's likely he would have been reworking the material until the end of the process. The story with Myers is that he came up with the idea of doing the Scottish accent at the 11th hour which forced everything to be recorded and lot of animation work to be redone.

I love this take a lot, though; it feel surprisingly grounded. Farley's career was about to go nuclear and Shrek would have contributed big time.

To be fair though, Shrek wouldn't have been near as popular/successful had it been Farley instead of Myers.

Myers is what made that franchise soar IMO.

the comedy world changed. he did not. his style kind of died. all he has is shrek at this point, which im sure is more than enough for him. maybe he will start producing and helping a new generation of comedy.
