I have not read the books yet, but I's a huge fan of the show. My 12 year old daughter loves to read and would like the story, but the series is entirely too mature for her. Are the books as graphic as the show? Appropriate for an almost 13 year old to read?

The sexuality in the show is more explicit than what is in the books, but the books are still quite violent and use bad language. If you think the show is too mature for her, then the books are probably also too mature for her.

I'm only about half done with GoT - I would wait until 14 - what you see on screen is equivalent to the level of graphic detail in the novels, and there are more numerous graphic depictions in the novels, from my reading so far.

There is almost as much sexual content in the books as in the show, so if you think the series is too mature for her then the books will be as well.

I would not let my 13 year old read them. Maybe in a couple of years.

ETA: Then again, you should assess the maturity level of your kid and decide based on that.

So no for a 13 year old but ok for a 14 year old? That doesn't make much sense

To the OP, if you are fine with your child watching the show then you are probably fine with your child reading the books. Books are probably more graphic though.

I'm only 500 pages into the first one, so maybe it gets worse, but the sexual content in the book is very tame compared to the show. I haven't hit too much violence in the series though, so maybe that's graphic. I'd say no, but 12 year old kids know everything these days.

ETA: Profanity isn't near as bad in the first book either. Maybe seen 2 f-bombs and 1 c-word and that's about it honestly.

At least half the sex scenes in the show are either made up or happen between characters that do not have a POV in the book, so we would have never read about them.

I'll put it to you this way: During the first sex scene between Dany and Kal Drogo, Martin goes into great detail about how terrified she was and how he gave her a nice creampie that ran down her 13 year old legs.

I don't agree with that, & no I wouldn't let my 12 year old read them yet.
