Ned Stark - I don't need any more honor and all indications suggest he is an average fighter, certainly not worthy of the Kingsguard

Where do you guys read this? He was responsible for the defeat of 3 great KG including the Sword of the Morning. He also was the commander of the Usurper's forces and won every battle he was in. I'm pretty sure he knows how to swing Ice. He's from the North. Their prowess does not get sung about because the singers don't go there.

I don't really want a guy who is honorable to a fault. We all saw how it played out with him playing the game of thrones.

Not suited to be Hand the same way great members of the KG weren't in the past. The Hand rules while the King is busy. The KG serves. Wouldn't you want someone honorable to a fault then?

Their most important oath is to serve the King. Ned would do as he was told if his King commanded him.

1.Lord Commander: Jaime Lannister (with both hands)
2. Strong Belwas
3. Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane
4. Daario Naharis
5. Beric Dondarrion
6. Oberyn "The Red Viper" Martell
7. Areo Hotah

My kingsguard would be rough around the edges, but could kill anyone who fricked with me without problems.

As I recall, he and his men outnumbered the Kingsguard 2 to 1 at least. You say this as if he killed Arthur Dayne in single combat. My understanding is he damn near died and Howland Reed saved his arse. He commanded one arm of Robert's army during the revolt. I never said he wasn't a hell of a leader and tactician, but I don't see him beating Dayne, Selmy, Hotah, Garlan, Rhaegar, or Ser Robert Strong/Red Viper in single combat. He could probably best Thoros, but I don't have Thoros on the Kingsguard for his prowess with a sword.

ETA: And to clarify - my criteria for Kingsguard does not specifically include tactical or strategic understanding. Most of what the Kingsguard does is stand around and wait for some fools to try to kill the king, even during times of war. They aren't generals. So, the two most weighted categories of a Kingsguard are loyalty and swordsmanship. Strategy and tactical planning are lagniappe. The only exception is Thoros, who can bring the dead back to life.

I realize he had numbers, but nowhere in the novels does it describe him as an average fighter as you put it. It does talk of how the North's fighters are undervalued because they don't really do tournaments and the singers rarely visit to make songs about how bad arse they are. Ever heard of Cregan Stark? Probably not and I just happened to catch his name in passing. Aemon the Dragonknight called him the greatest swordsman he ever met. Point being, the North is full of bad mother's that don't go around trying to pump up their legends. I don't think he was on the other's levels, but he would have made for a great Lord Commander.

What battles did Dunk lose?

First fight - Ashford Tourney - Lost

Second fight - Aerion - Won but barely and if anybody with better skill than Aerion he would have lost (had to use wrestling)

Third fight - Ser Lucas Longinch - Won but only because he was slightly bigger, Would have died if he wasn't in the water. (had to use wrestling)

Fourth fight - Butterwell Wedding - Lost

Fifth fight - Heddle - Won may be the only time he truly won but we don't know if that guy was any good.

It seems he is terrible with weapons and only wins by wrestling. Doesn't seem like a person you want on a kingsguard.

After researching it only seemed like he lost all his battles. Still doesn't change my mind though.

Day 1 of being LC. Puts a sword in you or has his dragon eat you. Names himself KING. Why because he is the Conqueror.

Dude killed his father and brother in a fictional world version of the movie Saw. If I'm King, he won't have such strong moral objections lol.

Sure, but better than Arthur Dayne? What about Barristan Selmy? Because if Arthur Dayne weren't available, Barristan Selmy would be the Lord Commander.

ETA: Would I want Ned Stark on my side? You bet your arse. I'd want Robb Stark on my side, too. Both are pretty spectacular tacticians and strategists, though Robb admittedly had the advice of one of the most diabolical frickers in Westeros - Roose Bolton.
