The ratings have been bad for the whole season. Bunch of people stopped watching during or after season 4. Many of the Olicity fans (Felicity-Oliver ship) probably stopped watching this season since they did away with the relationship and much of the drama. It also doesn't help that the first few episodes of season 5 aren't that great either.
I personally love it! Adrian Chase is just as good as Slade. And the action scenes are back to being top notch.
I can see them doing maybe 1 more season and calling it quits.
In regards to this episode I was shocked by how dark it was especially compared to last season. Especially the scene where Oliver skinned the man alive mostly for practice/fun.

I stopped watching after they killed off Laurel. It wasn't so much the fact that they killed her (that alone made me angry), it was the fact that her dying words concerned Olicity. After that...I was done. I haven't watched another episode since.
I still hang around, though, in the vain hope that they bring her back.

You should definitely start watching again. As many have said, the show has gotten back to season 2 levels. Maybe even better. Also the new Black Canary is more like the comic BC than Laurel ever was. Her and Oliver seem to have good chemistry too.

Did not like the first episodes with the new recruits... etc.
but yeah, this season is the real deal!

How sad is it that a small cable channel can make DC fun, but all the big budget hollywierd morons can't?

So it's not a bad season? I haven't started it. I have given up on the show with the new crew and Felicity.

I was pretty skeptical because of how it had gone downhill in the last couple seasons, and even still after the first couple of episodes. But this season has at least a couple of the series' best, the arcs are well done so far. Even the new characters for the most part are well thought out (though I wasn't crazy about Ragman). And new Black Canary is a huge improvement over laurel. Oh yeah, and Olicity is over!
But that gun control episode though.

Just watched yesterday's episode. That was one of the best episodes of television I've seen recently. The best of this season rivals the best of season 2.

This is good to hear. I'm currently Midway through season 4 on a rewatch and I'm glad to know it's going to pay off coming back.

I don't think the show has ever had a "bad" season. Season 3 was solid, and I wouldn't say season 4 was good but I wouldn't say it was bad.
I'm glad this season has returned to Seasons 1 and 2 form though.

I agree that season 3 wasn't as bad as I originally thought but season 4 just might be worse than I originally thought. It's really awful.

I don't think I even finished that season. Just gave up towards the end and started season 5.
Amell has been posting pics hinting at the return of Slade. If that happens this season will go down as the best.

Looks like I will be coming back after all. Katie Cassidy is returning to the show as a series regular starting with the last two episodes of season five.
Though it will be as Black Siren.
