I think I'm the first to respond who isn't a sibling.

And she didn't drop it on purpose.

And FWIW, I can buy the arguments that she did, I just don't agree with them.

i can see why they'd have that (wrong) opinion, and they are entitled to it.

Dropping the ball on purpose would mean Dottie is acknowledging that she is, and always will be better than Kit. It would be her acknowledging that Kit could never beat her straight up. I think she loved her sister more than that. Kit wanted it more and she took it.

Kit's entire existence is ruined if Dottie doesn't drop that ball. This is future Kit if Dottie holds on to the ball.

If she did drop it on purpose and Kit found out. She would never forgive her. Dottie knows this.

Whos going to tell her? Dottie? And from the movie, it appears her and Dottie havent really kept in touch, and Dottie leaves immediately afterwards. Dottie seems awfully not bothered by the fact that her sister just beat her in that locker room conversation, too

3. Of course it's on purpose

The people who constantly say they would "never let someone win," are either lying, or looking for excuses because they don't win. Winning isn't everything. Losing isn't everything. It is not always about the outcome. It's about the journey, the understanding, the challenge.

If you are truly good at something, or many things, and have been better than the people around you, then you would have, at some point, understood that sometimes there is value in letting someone win. There's also value in crushing someone into oblivion. It takes some humble self-reflection and self-control to know when to give and when to push. When to understand what effect an outcome will have.

So yeah, maybe the people who really want to believe that she didn't drop it on purpose, didn't make a conscious decision to put her sister first, just aren't good enough at anything to have been faced with such a choice?

You know, if we're communists and all.
