It’s a fun homage to 80’s and 90’s adventure/fantasy movies complete with synth music and Harryhausen creatures with a bit of Jules Verne thrown in.

Wan is unashamed to go full comic book. He didn’t normalize a frame to make it less “comic booky”.

Some will hate it for being light and fast paced. Kids should love it.

Cheesy like Highlander, The Phantom, or Jason and the Argonauts. Small budget feel but with full special effects.

Not like Justice League, Batman & Robin, or something like that.

Really fun movie. It’s Tron meets Star Wars meets Indiana Jones(maybe).

Definitely not without its faults, mostly the humor was forced at times, but that didn’t take away from the awesomeness of Mamoa as Curry, or the great action.

There are way too many variables in that equation.

It could mean...Tron (2010) meets Phantom Menace meets Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Or it could mean Tron original meets Temple of Doom meets Return of the Jedi.

And highly doubtful that it means this...Tron original meets Empire Strikes Back meets Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It’s not Empire or Lost Ark, but it’s definitely not Phantom Menace or Crystal Skull. This movie isn’t going to ruin anyone’s childhood.

It’s in that big adventure mold though.

Where would you rank Aquaman in the DC out of Batman vs Superman, WW, Justice League

Wonder Woman
Aquaman

BvS
Man of Steel
Justice League
Suicide Squad

It’s more even than Wonder Woman (which had 3rd act problems). WW also had a weaker, less defined villain. But Momoa and Heard don’t deliver on the same screen presence or emotional levels as Gadot and Pine. If there are any iconic scenes in Aquaman they’re for comic fans only. There is no “Wonder Woman rising from the trench to fight through No-Man’s Land” scene that people will be swooning over.

And since superhero movies tend to be defined by their villains, I’d say that Patrick Wilson did a near-great job. He won’t be on anyone’s best villain list but he delivers in a role that is fairly generic. Orm is a king who wants to rule the oceans and battle the surface world. There’s not a lot to work with there. Wilson plants himself firmly without chewing the scenery. There’ve been comparisons to Thor but, if anything, it’s the opposite. Here Loki is King and Thor is the low-born usurper, plotting to take the throne.

Black Manta is great in full costume (though the Momoa BBW sitting next to me giggled at the introduction of his big helmet) and mediocre without the head gear. It’s an Arrow-verse level performance at best. In costume and in action I could watch him all day.

When did Scott Stapp become Aquaman? The Aquaman I grew up with had short blond hair.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like over the top action that can be cheesy. I know it's not accurate but I want to believe Arial is Meras Grand mother lol.

Bumping for those seeing the 3D Premieres tonight.

Hard to believe that this franchise started with a film that refused to call its main character Superman.

It's projected to be at about 230 million by the end of the week in China. Wow.

Matt Singer has dogged the Aquaman casting, character, and performance since BvS and through Justice League. He would take any occasion to point and laugh at Momoa and Warner for the casting and portrayal.

Now he likes it.

WHY I LOVE AQUAMAN: NO JOKE’S TOO SILLY TO BE A PLAUSIBLE SUBPLOT
