What is a Hoku?

And doesn't the Chromecast show anything you can play in the Chrome browser

i have both, they are both great, but roku has a lot more apps. only reason to choose apple tv over roku is if you have other apple products and plan on doing airplay.

most of the major apps(youtube, netflix, espn, hbo go) are available on both platforms. amazon prime, time warner cable(turns your roku into a tw cable box) and showtime anytime are only available on roku, making it a no brainer for me.

I have 2 Rokus and love them. I'm not sure geaux zone will be an option on one though as I've never tried it. If you jailbreak an Apple TV there might be a way to do it though.

Is a Roku a one time purchase? Not like using Xbox to watch HBOgo and having to have Xbox live

There is no additional cost for the roku. You would need an HBO account via your cable subscription or a friends log in.
