I don’t buy DVDs near as much as I used to. But I do still here and there. I believe I’m up to 1,785 movies/shows currently (VHS and DVD).

Same here. Didn’t know that was a thing.

My old roommate got me hooked on buying movies. It started with VHS obviously. But we used to hit up Blockster every week because they put used movies on sale. I think I have just over 300 tapes. But once I got into DVDs I never looked back.

And I have all four of the Golden Collection Looney Tunes DVDs.

I only have old pics from hundreds of DVDs ago. I may have a pic of them all boxed up in my hallway when we redid my floors and I moved them to storage. I think it was about 25-30 boxes. If we ever get the frick out of this house and into a bigger one, I plan to have a media type room with all my movies and video game systems hooked up (I have about 250 games across 12 systems).

So I guess that’s another thing I still prefer physical media for: video games.

There was a guy on my Dorm room floor who had an incredible VHS collection because he worked at Blockbuster or some local rental for awhile. They were stacked in multiple cabinets.

He literally ran his own movie rental service out of the dorms. You didn't have to walk out the door, hop in your car at night in freezing cold, you just walked down the hall.

Still remember paying $2 to "borrow" Species (Natasha Henstridge)...two dollars well spent.

It's the only way I view movies. I am as much of a fan of how movies are made as I am of movies. If I can't find a DVD or Blu-Ray with bonus features such as commentaries or behind the scenes footage I'm not watching it. Streaming services are the antichrist in this regard.

Criterion channel does a good job of including the special features on it's streaming service. Not every movie has them but a lot do.

Yes, DVD's only. My collection is extremely specific to those films that I truly like and would want to watch again. No fillers. So around maybe 200+ hundred total.

The next additions will likely be Dune 1&2, though I'm notoriously patient and am happy to wait if to see if there is going to be a extended-version/director's-cut version coming out. I've started, very slowly expanding into TV series a bit.

Sounds like the perfect man for my offer

Here is how we organize them

Top row is TV. The rest are separated by genres.

On the top of the shelf, the black organizer to the left is the discs of the movies that didn't make the cut.

The black organizer to the right is the part of my collection of my old comic books that's worth preserving.

I have a personal project I started to catalogue my physical media and streaming media. Just looking through some of my physical media today I forgot I had some movies that I almost bought streaming. Also, there was the aforementioned Criterion fiasco. I also have some movies on one streaming service but not another.

I don't have many steelbooks, but I think my favorite movie/edition in my collection is the Midsommar Director's Cut: Collector's Edition. Probably the best looking 4K movie I've ever seen and the packaging and extras are really cool.

That's really nice looking. I've never been to the A24 store.

The boutique labels are usually the best when you're looking for unique packaging, special features and the best transfers.

I just bought the True Romance 4k from Arrow Video. LINK

Shout Factory

Kino Lorber

They all have a lot of obscure movies but they are starting to get more mainstream titles since the studios aren't really interested in physical media right now.

My wife has a couple good size boxes of VCR tapes and DVD's stashed in the storage area of the house that have been there for ages since we have neither a VCR or DVD player.

I have a couple hundred old vinyl records in both 45 and 33 1/3 RPM and about 20 or so real old 78's probably from the 20's and 30's.

There's also a few hundred old cassette tapes and around 400 CDs that I will listen to when down in the man cave throwing darts or getting into working out.
