Lawhead's Pendragon Cycle would be great.
His Song of Albion trilogy would be much better. More fantasy elements. Incredible series. Seriously, go read it.
You should try Silver Hand by Llywellyn.
They never finished the series sadly, but the first two books were great fantasy imo.

They are making the Shannara series into a tv show?! Which period/group of characters will it be?
They are starting in the Elfstones of Shannara. Only thing I dont like so far about the casting is they got Manu Bannet to play Allanon. Which in no way fills the slot of an almost 7 ft, very slim man. Outside of him the casting looks good. Several very good character actors, and a couple of unknowns.

shite, a movie about Robert's Rebellion would be KILLER.
That would be good, especially since it is not perfectly laid out in the book in great detail, so I don't have a strong idea of what it should be.
The one scene I would want to see, which is my favorite scene in any book ever written, is Ned Stark and 6 others meeting the 3 best and last loyal Kingsguard at the Tower of Joy.
quote:
“I looked for you on the Trident,” Ned said to them.
“We were not there,” Ser Gerold answered.
“Woe to the Usurper if we had been,” said Ser Oswell.
“When King's Landing fell, Ser Jaime slew your king with a golden sword, and I wondered where you were.”
“Far away,” Ser Gerold said, “or Aerys would yet sit the Iron Throne, and our false brother would burn in seven hells.”
“I came down on Storm's End to lift the siege,” Ned told them, and the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne dipped their banners, and all their knights bent the knee to pledge us fealty. I was certain you would be among them.”
“Our knees do not bend easily,” said Ser Arthur Dayne.
“Ser Willem Darry is fled to Dragonstone, with your queen and Prince Viserys. I thought you might have sailed with him.”
“Ser Willem is a good man and true,” said Ser Oswell.
“But not of the Kingsguard,” Ser Gerold pointed out. “The Kingsguard does not flee.”
“Then or now,” said Ser Arthur. He donned his helm.
“We swore a vow,” explained old Ser Gerold.
Ned’s wraiths moved up beside him, with shadow swords in hand. They were seven against three.
“And now it begins,” said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light.
“No,” Ned said with sadness in his voice. “Now it ends.”

That will probably turn out to be the most significant passage in the first 5 books, IYAM.

Agreed, and it was not even in the tv show.

I have been on a biography kick lately, but it is time I pick up a fantasy series again. I'll check those out. Thanks for the tips.

I've read the books because they came up as similar to the monstrumologist series. From the previews, the movie bears no resemblance to the source material.

Seen a lot of mixed or negative reviews so far - it was released in many markets overseas last month. It was also made almost 2-3 years ago and pushed back many times due to company issues.
Then again, many people just don't get fantasy movies.

I'm sorry about that unfortunate situation you have with that stick up your arse. I'm sure it's quite painful.

Let Favreau give you hope.
According to IMDB it looks like it will start in August.

Looks dreadful. I remember seeing previews for it like 4 years ago. Must've been in development hell.
It's gonna suck shite, sorry

One of the worst trailers of all time. Really funny bad reviews so far too. Pass.

I'm optimistic about it, but the MTV part scares me as well.

It's out on the internet already.
I didn't find it very entertaining.

Saw it and it wasn't terrible but I'd rather redbox.
