looking for the traditional acceptable formats
can you recommend a book or two?
the pitch.
the summary ( trade jargon name)
the thing itself.

This will help with formatting:
The Screenwriter's Bible by David Trottier
A link until you get the book:
Nicholl screenwriting resources
This is a must read for any aspiring screenwriter (or serious movie buff, for that matter), by the author of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid:

I've always thought about writing a screenplay for fun in my free time.
Do you guys write them and then shop them? How do you get them to people?

I haven't actively shopped any. Once you have a final copy, make sure you copyright it before you shop it around.
I know lots of people in the industry and will shop eventually, but I just started at my dream job and dont have the time right now

I've got two screenplays I'm working on. I always say I'm going to sit down and finish them on weekends, but I haven't forced myself to. Not made the progress I'd like. One is a legit idea... The other is just something for fun based off a thread on this board actually

I've written a couple novels and am fine tuning them before I start contacting agents and/or publishers. Started as a hobby but the first one I wrote got great reviews from the 3 people i sharec it with, and they are real assholes so it gives me confidence.
