I need to read it again.

I remember there not being any emphasis on a resistance, but I thought I remembered most of the characters. Especially the guy and the girl meeting in the Rockies. Also the I Ching being featured heavily and the alternate history in the alternate history.

I really enjoyed this pilot - I am concerned about the significant deviations from the source material - but I caveat that with the reminder that my favorite film is Bladerunner by Ridley Scott - a film that significantly deviated from Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?".

I think what makes PKD novels good for movies is specifically this. He was very good at developing concepts and creating worlds, but the novels, while having good plots, leave things kind of open-ended. He tends to look at things through the eyes of only one or a handful of characters and rarely is there a large-scale resolution at the end.
I think that's why his writing makes good source material. Directors can expand on things rather than have a rigid story arc they feel like they have to stick to, and result is some ol badass movies like Blade Runner and The Matrix.

The guy is based on a character in the book - they've just taken... liberties to get him to the Rockies at this point.

I Ching

That part is authentic as well.

I am excited about this product - Bladerunner came out when I was a kid - I've read a bunch of PKD stuff since then. Some adaptations turn out great (Bladerunner, the original Total Recall, Minority Report) - others - not so much (Paycheck).

Not bad - I'm not sure I read the source material, though.

its worth reading. really all of his stuff is but scanner darkly is really amusing. The movie adaptation was really well done at embracing the concept and style of the book.

I read the the man in the high castle 20+ years ago, so i have completely forgotten it.

But I plan to watch the series. Even the bad dick translations are more than watchable.
