During Amazon Studios’ latest pilot season, The Man In The High Castle became the most-watched since the original series development program began. Amazon has now greenlit a full season of the drama from Frank Spotnitz. It has also picked up full seasons of hour-long dark comedy Mad Dogs, from Shawn Ryan; docu-series The New Yorker Presents; and kids shows Just Add Magic, and The Stinky & Dirty Show. The new series will premiere exclusively for Prime Instant members in the U.S., UK and Germany later this year and into 2016.

The Man in High Castle is going to be awesome. Disappointed Salem Rodgers didn't get picked up.

I went out of my way to do a review for this. I'm glad my time wasn't wasted.

I really enjoyed this pilot - I am concerned about the significant deviations from the source material - but I caveat that with the reminder that my favorite film is Bladerunner by Ridley Scott - a film that significantly deviated from Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?".
(Ridley is listed as one of the executive producers for The Man in the High Castle, BTW.)

It's the only one I watched, but I thought it was damn good with great production quality.

So is Prime Instant different from regular Prime?

Can someone give a quick synopsis/explanation of this one?

it's based on a Phillip k Dick novel that supposes the axis powers won ww2. Germany controls the eastern US and Japan the west coast.
very cool book

I think some of the Prime trials and student freebies don't get you access to movies, just shipping, so they probably were just specifying people that had access to Prime video.

I may have to check the Barnes and Noble in Metairie....or see if they have it in the iTunes store.

Oh ok, we have Prime....just didn't know if there were other tiers I was unaware of.

From what I remember about the book, it seemed pretty close.

Not really.
Ole girl does teach Aikido in the book - the whole East Coast thing is made up. Let's see how it develops - it is a wonderful premise (although not altogether clever) - of the Axis winning WWII.
The original book is - ultimately - about the value of forgeries - and whether a working forgery that somebody "believes" in is more valuable than a non-working authentic one (a common Dick theme - DADOES - what's real and who is a 'real' human, for example).
This one appears to be about a plucky band of resistance fighters - but, I'm okay with the execution of it ... so far.

I really wanted to like the pilot, but jeez, that acting is so bad. I'm shocked how many people liked it and gave it glowing reviews. Sure it looks slick, and the concept is great (as all PKD stories are) but the cast or directing (not sure which) is so sub par as to make it nearly unwatchable. And of course it veers away from the source material (which is fine), but I cannot understand the love for TMITHC.

So far is right. We've seen one hour.

The book was not about resistance fighters, or overthrowing the current regime, which is where the show is taking us. The book dealt more with what it was like to live in the conditions of an Axis-won world.
I don't mind a movie adaptation being different than the source material, as long as it is also done well. This pilot was not. The acting is downright awful.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.
I'm not saying it has anything like a vibe of Sopranos, Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones - but it seems a quality product. I have no problems with the acting or the overall product... so far.

The whole part about the truck leaving from NYC - there are references to the German occupied areas, but no scenes explicitly set in that part of the world in the novel - only the West Coast and neutral zone.

That sounds pretty cool.
Thanks.
