Watched this last night for the first time in like 10 years. I know its historical accuracy is probably bullshite, but still a really good movie.

one of my favorite movie experiences and a movie that doesn't seem nearly as long as its run time

i don't care about accuracy when it's just simply that much of a joy to watch everything unfold

one of the best uses of music in any movie in history

Picked up a Blu-ray of it for 5 bucks in a bargain bin not long ago. Watched it for the first time in almost 30 years.

Great film, but definitely not a feel-good flick.

One of my favorite scenes in any movie:

Salieri: "On the page it looked nothing. The beginning simple, almost comic. Just a pulse. Bassoons and basset horns, like a rusty squeezebox. And then suddenly, high above it, an oboe. A single note, hanging there, unwavering. Until a clarinet took over and sweetened it into a phrase of such delight! This was no composition by a performing monkey! This was a music I'd never heard. Filled with such longing, such unfulfillable longing, it had me trembling. It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God."

Another favorite, same thing, but descent into insanity well along:

Salieri: "I heard the music of true forgiveness filling the theater, conferring on all who sat there, perfect absolution. God was singing through this little man to all the world, unstoppable, making my defeat more bitter with every passing bar."

Antonio Salieri: You choose for your instrument a boastful, lustful, smutty infantile boy...and give me for reward only the ability to recognize the incarnation. Because you are unjust, unfair, unkind, I will block you. I swear it. I will hinder and harm your creature as far as I am able. I will ruin your incarnation.

Great movie. And it's not the sort of historical movie that I'm concerned about accuracy.

It's truly more entertaining and interesting than it looks.

We watched this every year in choir

Any time we had a sub and weren't prepping for State, my choir teacher would have the sub play this or O Brother Where Art Thou

One of my favorite scenes in a movie. Mozart killed himself right there and didn't even know it.

Mozart was no fool as portrayed in movie.

And there was no great rivalry between the two composers. Mozart's wife made him the music teacher of Mozart's child after he died.

F Murry as Salieri is amazing. i don't know if i've ever seen jealousy better put on film

the great thing about Salieri is that he hates Mozart out of irrational jealousy while still loving the thing that Mozart creates (that makes him hate Mozart). Salieri is just an amazing character. his torment and internal conflict is the fuel that makes this movie go

The downside to that scene is that it forever colored the 20th piano concerto, 2nd movement for me. Amadeus the movie is a mixed blessing.

One of my top 10 favorite movies. It's that good. The music, the cast, plot and direction are all excellent.
