Are the xenomorphs from aliens sentient?

Depends what your definition of sentience is.

They demonstrate several times through the series an ability to problem solve and coordinate. I think they are like ants or termites with a strong sense of society which leads me to believe that they have some kind of hive mind that is more powerful than any of the individual units. It is never explained (as I remember) how they communicate, but it could be some kind of ESP-like system using magnetic waves or something that taps all of the individuals into one mind.
Eta: I assumed you meant sentient in my response.

At the end of Aliens the queen gets the hell out of the complex and hitches a ride back with the ship. I wonder if she knew the place was going to blow up, or she was just going for revenge. How smart is she, exactly? She definitely understands Ripley's threats against her eggs.
