A back to basics Alien movie with an emphasis on practical effects and I’m there day 1.
but thats already been done, very well. i'm interested in the backstory, but prometheus and covenant are such a mess that it's best to pretend they never happened. give me a coherent and cool story of the the xenomorph's origins, the engineers and the over-arching themes and it would be far more interesting to me than more body horror

Wiki says it’s set between alien and aliens.

My first thought is it was a reimagined mashup of Alien and Aliens.

I'd like that too but the franchise needs to find its audience again so if this is a back to basics but enjoyable horror movie on space I'm cool with it. Dive a little deeper on the next go around.

Both James Cameron and Ridley Scott have said they liked the screening of the movie

Ridley Scott is one of the producers. Not surprising.

Nice copycat nostalgia trailer...callbacks, all the rage. But I appreciate the effort to acknowledge the fans. Who knows if the trailer is > the actual movie.

I didn’t hate Covenant as much as the rest but the CGI took me out of it.

Covenant was a gigantic piece of space jockey shite.

Even Danny McBride managed to suck in that movie.

Might be good, might not. But one thing is for sure - never trust an Alien-verse trailer.

Its nostalgia bait. I remember when people were so excited after the Prometheus trailer and you got a totally different movie.

I'm starting to rethink my opinion of Alien 3 the longer this franchise goes.

I freaking love the Alien series, minus a couple films, but I can’t help but think it’s gotten a tad stale.

Obviously we all know what the Alien looks like so that fear of unknown is gone. I think Predator did a good job of taking it to a completely new setting, era, and style with the latest one.

Maybe making an Alien based off Alien: Isolation would be good. One protagonist all alone trying to hide and stay alive while it hunts them, keep it short because of that factor, maybe only 90 mins but intense and without a soundtrack.

Or is there a new setting other than space that could work? Obviously the whole Predator premise of coming to earth every couple of hundred years to hunt doesn’t work as Aliens don’t have that mindset. AvP and Requiem sucked dick so modern day has been done before.

Maybe a post apocalyptic earth where the aliens ravaged mankind could work, ala Quiet Place, but then that’s similar to Quiet Place.

Idk, feel like the Alienverse needs a really creative setting and plot than same old same old.

We’ve seen this movie before each installment, group of protagonists stumble upon alien, alien kills them one by one until one person is left then they find a way to kill it or escape.

Ripley was a good, interesting character that the audience connected with, and not an over-the-top bad arse like in more modern movies.

In the original script, Ripley didn't have a gender. Not making it an issue worked out very well.

Could this be connected to the colony? We only got to see a snippet in the director's cut of aliens. I guess it's mostly on that ship.

I came out of the theater in 92 disappointed in the end but overall pleased. For the terrestrial setting if anything. Everything since has been crap and I consider Aliens 3 gold.

Maybe I need to rewatch it because in another Fincher thread other people were defending it and I have no fondness for this movie.

I know production was a nightmare but I guess i should give it another chance.

ETA: I don’t have a ton of hatred for Prometheus or Covenant. No love but not hatred so maybe my opinion is moot.

I think this is still set in the “Prometheus universe” as a sequel to Covenant.

People may be confusing this with the Alien TV series in the works now by Noah Hawley (Fargo) who has said it will disregard the bio weapon xenomorph origin in Prometheus entirely.

I despised Alien 3 for a long time. As I got older I learned to appreciate it more and more. The score is my favorite of all the films. The Alien Blu Ray collection and some of the DVDs have whats known as the assembly cut version of it available. It's imo superior to the theatrical release

Exactly. In Aliens Ripley is very maternal in her protection of Newt.
