Can't really blame M. Night on this one. He was simply the working directed, they could have gotten another to direct, and the movie would have turned out exactly the same. This was all Smith's Scientology vanity piece for his kid.

I actually agree with this. Shyamalan was done after making 2 of the top 10 worst films of the 2000s, and Will wanted to have complete freedom of his son with an established director and someone who couldn't write a passable screenplay to save his life. Any sane director would have called them out on such a shitty script, ridiculous themes, and ridiculous accents, but Shyamalan was in no position to do so.

I think M. Night demands monotone performances from his actors, kinda like Wes Anderson likes the introverted weirdo thing and Lucas settles on any crap that'll hold up after being carpet bombed with CGI. Difference being I can watch & enjoy most of the latter's work.

Still better than The Village though.

*I loved Unbreakable and Sixth, don't mean to write the guy off as a hack. It's just become tired to me.

I am done with Wil Smith and Jamie Foxx due to their political views and any actor/actress that are in action/shoot em up films but claim to be anti-gun, can hold their breath and wait on me spending another dime on them

I'm relieved to hear this movie sucked. I would not have seen it no matter what, since I think it's ridiculous Will Smith is trying to use his star power to turn his son into a star. These rich stars should be encouraging their privileged kids to maximize their educational opportunities instead. The Ivies and Stanfords of the world love admitting the kids of rich, famous people.
