re: Actors who left Successful TV Shows too early

IIRC, Steve Carrell didnt leave the Office to pursue a movie career, he did it because he felt it was time to move on. I also think he wanted to spend more time with the family

Stevenson leaving hurt MASH badly, then the death blow came the next year when the show's creative leader, the brilliant Larry Gelbart, left. From that point there was no question Alda was the driving force behind the series, and it quickly devolved into a liberal guiltfest.

Do you write press releases?

Carell doesn't belong in this thread. He's got a total of six movies either being released or filmed this year

Not only that, but creatively the Office has been in a lull for a while. He either got out on time or even too late.

Good take.

The shift in tone is palpable when they transitioned to the new cast and Alda is front and center and years later we would come to learn his activism and views.

That was a huge fail on his part.

That, and I bet he has made and/or will make a shitload of money from the despicable me franchise.

This is probably a spoiler. Just saying.

I agree. Steve's last season wasn't exactly anything to get excited about.

This thread is usually named the Caruso thread, since his was the most publicized flop.

It was jarring to have Tim Daly leave the animated Superman franchise between Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League. Not that it hurt his career, but he did leave the franchise to do a one and done season of the new Fugitive.

This x a million.

She left to pursue a movie career when she thought she was too cool for TV, but she hasn't done jack squat and the killing off of Marissa Cooper was the downfall that ruined the show. Yeah, I mad.

Michael Pitt from Boardwalk Empire. There's no way they planned on killing him off so soon, IMO,he was just apparently a massive douche.

Well yeah, but one is a product of the other. Streisand has managed to be a miserable cunt for decades and her career is doing just fine.

No, they decided against wrapping it up in a neat bow like 99% of shows. They went where the writing dictated they go.

re: Actors who left Successful TV Shows too early
streisand is more of a performer and icon, so she can get away with it

heigl is a fairly fungible rom com actress

re: Actors who left Successful TV Shows too early
I dunno, I feel like the show still had legs. I feel like the last few episodes of season 2 definitely wrote them into a corner where it was the most logical exit, but Pitt's behavior on set is what encouraged them to move in that direction.

What I'm saying is has he not been such a terrible person to work with they would have written his character in a different direction. But that's just my opinion.
