I feel like James Mason, Gregory Peck, Sean Connery, Peter Sellers, and John Wayne are getting a bit short-shrifted.

Thanks, I'll add Sean Connery. The other actors you listed I am not as familiar with some of their films. I'd love to hear some of the movies you would recommend.

The only problem I have with De Niro is getting over his fairly recent string of terrible movies.

Very much appreciated. I was hoping to receive some feedback exactly like this where I, and hopefully others on here, can get into some epic classic movies.

He's old. I give great actors a pass when they get up there in years. You can't blame a guy like Scorsese, who clearly loves DeNiro, for saying "Yeah I'm getting DiCaprio to star in Shutter Island DeNiro." Nobody wants to see him in those awesome roles anymore. Now it's cool for a comedy to have him in a role so you go "O hey look it's DeNiro, that's funny." It's just hard for an actor to keep getting great roles as they get older.

Trying to understand the question. Who has been in the most commercially successful (yet quality) movies? Probably Tom Hanks.
