It took me a few views to catch how sobering this was, but him revealing to Mac why he hired him: because he's white, and the jury is white, you know how to get me out of this mess. Stop pretending we're equals.

And how he finished his closing argument. "Now imagine that she's white."

Kind of pisses you off in retrospect, but it is what it is.

The acting in this film is eye-rollingly bad and so over the top.

I still don't understand how people look back on this movie as some classic.

Like most Schumacher stuff, it hasn't aged well. Spacey is laughable and the courtroom scenes are ridiculously over the top and unrealistic.

But I'll always like it. The setting is great and one of those movies where you can feel the Southern heat and humidity. McConaughey is great, a level headed regular guy that tries to do the right thing as opposed to Bullock's cartoonish SJW.

Great book, could be a much better adaptation today imo.

What, you didn't find it believable that Chris Cooper shouted concerning the man who shot him, "He's a hero. You turn him loose. You turn him loose! You turn him loose!" All I could think was, "That's mighty white of him."

There are a few moments in that movie that are better:

"The truth is, you're the weak, and I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd."
