Today's youth will never know the joy of discovering A Christmas Story, buried in the HBO Summer daytime schedule, and asking your friends, "Did you see that Christmas movie on HBO? The one with the kid with the BB gun?"

Almost no one knew about this film years later. It came out apparently around Thanksgiving and ran until Christmas but then was pulled from theaters and then was gone.

I only saw it on VHS years later staying home from school sick.

Jack Nicholson wanted to play the role of Ralphie’s dad.

Ralphie actually chewed real tobacco in his Black Bart scene.

Ralphies' little bro actually lived in the Christmas Story house...it is a museum now, he gave tours and lived on the third floor. Where you can even buy major awards:

Before directing A Christmas Story, Bob Clark directed:

Death dream
Black Christmas
Porkys
Porkys II

The narration kills it imo. Well, that and it's really just an awful movie to begin with.

The fact that It is given a full 24 hours of airplay should be criminal.

To me there is a re-occurring theme with Christmas movies (besides the Christmas part ) and that is....they all drag out and suck towards the end. Let the down votes ensue, but I can't think of one Christmas movie that's solid from start to finish.

That voice is the creator/writer. Jean Shepard. The movie is based on his life as Ralphie.

The narration is probably the best part.

Home Alone
Christmas Vacation
CHRISTMAS story
Elf
Bad santa

In that order. Starting Christmas morning and leading to NBA basketball games.

A Christmas Story was number one for me until about 8 years ago. Home Alone is #1 now.
