Jennifer Anniston is set to produce a remake of 9 to 5.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the Morning Show and Friends star's Echo Films production company will partner with 20th Century Studios for the upcoming reimagining of the 1980 film, which followed a trio of working women who band together to get revenge on their sexist boss (played by Dabney Coleman). The InSneider was first to report the news, also revealing that Oscar-winning Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody is working on a draft of the 9 to 5 remake script.

If you haven’t seen the 1980 movie, you are missing out. 9 to 5 was a favorite “kill a couple of hours on TV” movie from my childhood. The movie was hilarious. The ladies had wonderful chemistry and Dabney Coleman stole a lot of the scenes as the weaselly villain boss who apparently also had a violent streak. The 70’s were a real treasure trove of movies that dealt with labor issues of the day.

And… let’s go ahead and get the worse case scenario stuff out of the way.
One girl will be a minority OMG!!!
There will definitely be a lesbian couple
There will definitely be a transsexual.
The lush will be a dude.

I don’t know if I covered it all.

Please feel free to join in and sing the praises of this comedic classic.

Yep, on a lot when we first got cable in the early 80's.

How appropriate, 9 to 5 are also the odds against me ever watching this.

9 to 5 was a fantastic 80s movie

I just know the new version will try to be over the top, trying too hard to be funny, woke and will suck

I predict it will be like sitting thru an HR training class on sexual harassment.

How do we dare to laugh about such a serious problem?

Even if they don’t go woke it’ll still suck for the other reasons.

The Ghostbusters 2016 remake didn’t suck because the cast was all female, it sucked because the humor was forced and completely missed why people loved the dry wit of the original.

THEN they tried to play “You just hate it because you hate women” card when people tried to voice legitimate complaints about joke delivery, timing, and other flaws.

Same thing they did when folks pushed back about Brie Larson's abrasive personality in interviews promoting Captain Marvel, and Kelly Marie Tran's carboard performance as the worst character in the entirety of Star Wars when she played Rose in The Last Jedi.

The original movie was great. Another thing that doesn't need to be remade because it will never capture the spirit of the original.

How do you re-make this movie when misogyny and sexism in the work place is dead and buried?

At least it's likely Hanoi Jane won't be in it.

It’s pretty awesome. Much like Don’t Stop Believing, it’s got that little underdog bass riff at the beginning.

Who are they gonna cast for the Dolly boobs?

I mean, they were a substantial, heavy-hitting, captivating supporting character.

I wouldn't mind Anniston in an adaptation of Two Doors Down for sure. Watching her go from depressed to laid after laughing and drinking and having a party could get raunchy.

i heard the original song was so horribly bad, that dolly insisted they let her rewrite it and sing it, and it became gold

The original was such a massive propaganda piece, so actually, I fully expect the most shrill, woke remake imaginable.

I'll be disappointed if it's not.
