I watched this movie recently for the first time in quite a while and found it still to be worth some laughs after all these years. One of my favorite parts is Sam Kinison as Professor Turgeson:
"Is she right? ‘Cause I know that’s the popular version of what went on there. And I know a lot of people like to believe that. I wish I could, but I was there. I wasn’t here in a classroom, hoping I was right, thinking about it. I WAS UP TO MY KNEES IN RICE PADDIES…WITH GUNS THAT DIDN'T WORK, GOING UP AGAINST CHARLIE EVERYWHERE…SLUGGING IT OUT WITH HIM, WHILE PUSSIES LIKE YOU…WERE BACK HERE PARTYIN' PUTTIN' HEADBANDS ON DOIN' DRUGS LISTENING TO THE GOD DAMN BEATLES ALBUMS! AAAGGGHHH"
"Ugh. I hate small food, ya know?"
And its always nice to get Kurt Vonnegut to help you with your essay on Kurt Vonnegut.
And a young Robert Downey Jr.

Almost stole the movie.
The kid (Keith Gordon) became a fairly prominent television director. We probably first noticed him as the lead in Stephen King's Christine, although he was a teenager in Jaws 2, as well.

Kinison stole the movie with that sequence.
I also loved Rodney when he walks into the shower and the co-ed is in there. He closes the curtain, tells her "Don't worry honey, I didn't see anything." He then pulls it open again and says "You're perfect!"

frick that scene is funny. "You don't have any kids? Here, get yourself some kids."

Back to School essentially launched Kinison into the mainstream all thanks to Rodney. He put him in the movie and gave him a pop.
I never liked Kinison's comedy. I didn't like anything about his screaming act. I never got it, even now I don't really care for it. I was always far more fascinated with kinison the guy than his comedy.
Dude was a revival tent preacher and a very…very complicated dude. His Stern appearances are legendary and almost every comic of note cites him as the best.

I think I saw it 3 times at the theater. Me and my brand new driver's license.
And I loved Kinison, but hey, I was 15.

Dangerfield used to host a young comedians show on HBO. Kinison, Tim Allen, Drew Carey, and some others all got their first national exposure thanks to Rodney Dangerfield.

Great flick. The campus scenes were filmed at UW-Madison while I was going to school there, it was a big deal at the time.

"Hi there. Are you a large person? Pleasantly plump? A little on the hefty side, perhaps? Well, let's face it: Are you FAT? When you go jogging, do you leave pot-holes? When you make love, do you have to give directions? At the zoo, do the elephants throw YOU peanuts? Do you look at a menu and say 'OK'? Well, now, you can eat all you want, because at Thornton Melon's "Tall & Fat" stores, we've got you covered. That's right. Fine woolen, and woolen-blend suits and sport coats, in all the larger sizes - husky, stout, extra-stout, and the new Hindenburg line. And for you ladies we have caftans, mumus, and our own exclusive A-frame in all colors and patterns. Yes, we have miles and miles of fabric. So take it from me, Thornton Melon, if you want to look thin, you hang out with fat people."
----------
"What's your favorite subject?"
"Poetry."
"Really? Well, maybe you can help me straighten out my Longfellow."
----------
"Home, Sweet Home."
"I liked your old house better."
"So did I."
"I liked your old wife better, too."
"Hey lay off Vanessa. She gives great headache."
----------
"What did he want?"
"What do ALL men want?"
"He wants you to dress up like Wonder Woman? Tie him up with a golden lariat and force him to tell the truth?"
----------
"When's our first class?"
"Uh, we got economics tomorrow at 11 o'clock."
"11 o'clock? No good. I got a massage at 11 o'clock. Tell 'em to make it 2 o'clock."
