Just watched it on tv. I've seen it before. The ending I recall is after getting shot, Jim wakes up in a cottage with Selena and Hannah. They make a gigantic word "hello" from sheets which we are lead to believe is seen by a passing military plane.

What I JUST saw was Selena and Hannah taking Jim to a hospital where they try to care for his gunshot wound unsuccessfully. Jim dies and when Hannah asks what are they going to do, to which Selena replies, "we move on." The last shot is the two of them walking down the hall of the hospital.

My question is, which was the theatrical ending?

The happy one was the theatrical ending. Jim dies in the alternate

Only ending I've ever seen.

Thanks. I guess the channel picked the alternate. I prefer the happy ending.

There were actually more than 2 endings.

It annoys me. If Boyle wanted Jim to live they should have just re-shot the scene in which he gets shot - have the zombie kill Eccleston before he gets the shot off. The 'happy' ending has always seem ham-fisted to me for that reason.

This is the only ending I saw. Never knew an alternative ending was out there.

So did test audiences. Check out the faq page on imdb. There are several different alternate endings iirc.

After the rewatch, I might agree.

A fair amount of zombie movie purists with whom I've spoken don't consider it a zombie movie. It's an infection movie. Whatever. It's kind of splitting hairs to me.

It's not a zombie movie because unlike zbies the infected bodies were breaking down and it would all be over in a few weeks.

Zombies in movies existed prior to George Romero.

When does a test audience not pick the happy ending?

I love movies that buck that, but of course, killing off the star or whatever precludes SEQUELS!
