That is interesting. And when watching, I never connected that the music during the black screens was the same as when characters encountered the monoliths. That's pretty cool.

It doesn't change my stance that the monoliths seemed out of place, but I could definitely buy into the black screens being the audience staring directly at the surface of the monoliths.

My favorite Kubrick's are:


Paths of Glory
2001
Lolita
The Killing
Barry Lyndon
Spartacus(Even though Kubrick himself didn't care for it)



After those I like:

Killer's Kiss
Dr. Srangelove
Full Metal Jacket



Then way at the bottom I'd place:

A Clockwork Orange
The Shinning
Eyes Wide Shut





But that's just my opinion.
