6) The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers (6x13)
This is just an all time classic episode of kids just being kids. The story is that the boys get their hands on a copy of Lord of the Rings that is evil and turns kids insane, from Butters humping Kyle and turning even lamer, to the six graders hunting them down, to the grown ups trying to take it, to Token being left speechless. This video turns out to be Back Door Sluts IX, the most hardcore porno ever made. Just everything about this episode is classic, from Jimmy trying to stand up to the sixth graders, Kevin dressing up as a storm trooper and just ruining their awesome time, and Butters becoming Gollum.
Best Moment: Token tells the adults the horrors of the tape

I'm surprised at how many of these I haven't seen. I love the family guy and Britney spears episode.

5) Casa Bonita (7x11)
Kyle is having his birthday at Casa Bonita and is only allowed to bring 3 friends, so Kyle invites Stan, Kenny, and Butters due to the fact that Cartman is an anti-Semitic a-hole. Cartman can go if one of the invitees bails out, so Cartman targets Butters and convinces him that it is the end of the world. Instead of leaving that night like Cartman had planned, they instead stay to try to find Butters. Cartman goes to ridiculous measures to make sure Butters is hidden to where eventually he gets to go to Casa Bonita. Butters is eventually found in the junkyard and Cartman is arrested at Casa Bonita, but not before making it totally worth it by doing all the things he wanted to do.
This episode is certainly the essential Butters and Cartman episode. It also speaks alot about Cartman's personality on how truly self centered and narcissistic he is and how he would rather be doing stuff alone rather than be with any of friends or care about being considered as such. The beginning of the episode also shows how separated he is from being a rational human being and having feelings a normal human being would have, like beating the shite out of Jimmy or just wearing a nice sweater. Cartman has no comprehension on what kindness really is, and it is completely believable.
Best Moment: Cartman goes as quickly as possible through Casa Bonita

4) Butt Out (7x13)
Out of all the celebrity impersonations South Park has ever done, Rob Reiner is without a doubt my favorite celebrity parody (and due to his involvement in 200/201 I think the creators agree). The hypocrisy of Rob Reiner's smoking campaign is pretty astounding, even in real life. This guy has become so fricking fat that this guy is lecturing others on health?! This guy will far more likely die of heart failure than he would of lung cancer if he smoked every day. South Park takes it over the top and has him eat in every scene and imposing his will on everyone around him, which naturally makes him Cartman's icon.
Onto the overall plot, the boys are caught smoking due to this lame anti-smoking group saying if they don't smoke they could turn out like them. They burn down the school as a result and blame the tobacco companies. Reiner comes in and rages war on the local cigarette company, using the boys as his main weapon against them. After getting photos of them in the tobacco factory, Reiner decides that they need to shoot a commercial and Cartman is to star. Turns out Reiner plans to murder Cartman after shooting the comercial and they go to the tobacco company for protection. Another great thing about this episode is it is the first time in television history to take the tobacco company's side of argument since they're often such easy targets. The Tobacco Company in this episode represents freedom of choice, while Reiner's Butt Out group is nothing more than a bunch of German Nazis.
Best Moment: Reiner imposes his will on a guy minding his business at a bar.

This is a great list with most of my favorites. Surely The Losing Edge and WOW are yet to come.
Many "top episode" lists of any show pay undue homage to the early episodes, but this list is not tied down by that.
Great work!

3) Death Camp of Tolerance (6x14)
Garrison is an interesting character because unlike all the other adults in South Park who are just idiots, he knows when he's doing the wrong thing. Garrison goes to extreme measures to try and get fired for being gay, and hilarity ensues when everyone in the town is finding his behavior acceptable. "I shove a gerbil up your arse and they want to give me a god damn metal." This episode also introduces Mr. Slave, and I don't think a character on the show has had a better introduction. The B-Plot with the kids at Concentration Camp was great as well, especially when the Nazi Officer points a gun to Kyle's head. There is a rare C-Plot in this episode dealing with Lemmiwinks escaping Mr. Slave's arse, and its a hilarious parody on the Hobbit.
Best Moment: "Mr. Slave, Position Seven please."

Death Camp of Tolerance and The Red Badge of Gayness were easily my favorite episodes, though I haven't seen much of South Park in the past decade.

I assure you that it isn't. I find that episode extremely overrated as well.

Having said that, my wife and I still sing "Taco flavored kisses".

Also found this quote funny from the episode
"Mom! Ben Affleck is naked in my bed!!"
"Looks like the Tooth Fairy was extra nice to you Hun."

I was just busting your chops because I noticed that ep hadn't come up yet in your list, and for some reason, I noticed that post in the other thread. [s]So, I was curious to see where you would rank it.[/s]
whoops, just realized you made the top 5 comment after you ranked it 6th.
