I've been the past 3 years but I have always followed a particular group. This year I have Thursday off so I was planning on going early Thursday and setting a chair on one of the greens and watching the groups play through. My first question is can you bring foldable chairs in the grounds, and if so do you guys have any suggestions on which green would be the best one to post up on?

You can bring a chair, but not in the bag. Not many spots where you can see multiple holes from one spot. I would set up on the back side of 8 green, from there you can see 9 and 18 greens too. There's a spot by 13 tee where you can see 6 green and 7 tee and fairway and across to 3 green. It's pretty shady there. The other spot I'd consider is near 13 green, you can see 14 also and it's next to Acme!
I usually marshal but not this year. Going Friday but will roam the course following different teams.

In the area of the Acme tent has a lot of action.
ETA: Downvote? You can see three holes in that area. It's in a perfect location for what OP wants to do.

Have always wanted to do that, but have always just ended up following a group

The left side of 11 green is always a good spot. Can see them navigate the tree on their approach or layup...good angle for 15 & 12 tee and 14 green.

What weather source are you looking at? NWS has Thursday and Friday good then slight chance Saturday and Sunday as a chance of showers

Any recommendations for a first timer? I have Thursday off as well and taking my 60+ year old parents.

My pay app shows sunny Thursday and Friday.
You need a new site, the free ones just rehash what the national weather service says.

If they're cool with walking some, I'd pick up with a group on #1...Walk #1 and #2 tee shots then hang a right to #7's green. Pick up a group there and watch them/some play #8, walk with the group from #9 to #10 (assuming they're making the turn), then head down #16 (to the left of #10's green).
From there you can either continue on to #17 and watch groups play there, or watch people go for the green on #13. When you're ready to leave you can just walk up #18 with a group.

I may make the trip Friday. Are tickets available at the course or would I need to order them online?

you can get them at the course

Appreciate the great advice. What time should we arrive tomorrow? It looks like the first tee time is 8 a.m.
Also, what about the food situation? Does one need a special pass to simply enter the Acme tent or can anyone can enter and purchase food a la carte?

Wait, ya'll are going for the Tuesday practice round? Or Thursday first round?
Tuesday practice round, just mosey around wherever you feel like it.

Acme Tent has a separate pass, which you can buy from the tournament. But there's plenty of food vendors throughout the course for general ticket holders.

Sorry, haven't shaken off the weekend yet. Yes, it will be Thursday. Thanks for the advice.
The whole no bag for your chairs rule is unfortunate. That strap comes in handy when lugging the chairs around in addition to carrying food and drinks. Oh well, here is to a good day of golf

We did the ACME pass a few years ago and thought it was a really good deal. The ticket, a good meal, unlimited water and soft drinks and four adult bevs were like $75.
