Today being the homerun derby, it seems like the right day for this thread. If you were to assemble an all time home run derby team for the AL & NL who would it be? For guys who played in both leagues, put them on the league their careers are most synonymous with (IE Griffey-AL, Sosa-NL). My criteria is guys that you think would put on the best derby show.

AL
Reggie Jackson
Ken Griffey Jr.
David Ortiz
Frank Thomas

NL
Mark McGwire
Barry Bonds
Gary Sheffield
Ryan Howard

I'd insert Josh Hamilton for Thomas and Sosa for Sheffield.

It took me a while to come up with my 4th guy. I almost put in Hamilton but I decided to go with Thomas instead of a 3rd lefty.

Ken Griffey Jr.

As long as he's on the team, it doesn't matter who the other 3 players are IMO.

The guy who wins the HR derby is usually the guy who gets the best BP pitcher. That is the guy who throws to the same area of the plate consistently. Anyone with good bat speed will put up good numbers with the right pitching. That being said no one put on a BP display like Jose Canseco from 1987-1990.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the old school black and white homerun derbies that used to come on ESPN?

Sosa's performances in Atlanta and Milwaukee are both top 10 all-time, maybe even top 5. I don't know if he won either, but he was geeked out of his fricking skin and dropping 480+ footers on the reg.

The steroids helped way more than the corked bats.

Hey I remember watching him as a kid... I am just watching home runs being hit

I just finished reading article on Sports Illustrated....

They had Dunn, Willy Mo Pena, Stanton, B. Harper vs the All-Stars that would be interesting

Oh, me too. Very vividly. His unique "face 1B while showing the pitcher my back" stance always intrigued me.

Personally I think my NL group would shock the AL group and win....
