Cespedes won't opt out

I don't believe this for one second . He has 2 - $47.5 m left on his deal and he will be THE prize of free agency this winter. Think he will opt out and sign for 5 - $125 with mets

Cuban 30 is US 33

Any team that offers him 5 years is dumb

Yeah, there's no way that dude is 30. All the more reason to opt out, though.

While I agree, thats a way better deal than most of these 30 year old stars who want these 10 year deals.

Same league where 32 year old Greinke got. 6 year deal and Pujols,Rodriguez,Cano,Cabrera got 10 year deals that take them into their 40's

My point was that age doesn't prevent teams from giving out long deals. Is Cespedes is 31 then it's conceivable he will still be very productive throughout the whole contract if it is 5 years.

He's hit 42 HRs in 157 games with the Mets. Dude would make a fortune on the open market

The only reason for Cespedes not to opt out of his contract is that he's afraid of personal information being uncovered that would kill his value (hiding an injury, PEDs, lying about his age, previous criminal history).

Or that he's comfortable in Queens with a belief that if he opted out NYM wouldn't come back with an offer. There's a multitude of possible reasons we may not know or think about

As a Mets fan I hope he doesn't opt out but I am not getting my hopes up. I do think he wants to stay with the Mets, he is really happy there. I think in the end he will stay, but there will be a restructuring of his deal or a new deal altogether.

I bet a lot of people were saying the same thing about Strasburg when he signed his extension earlier this year.
